Winters on!

Snow today. Plants in the yard are dead. Listening to the hifi now instead of driving.

I was going to say wow that was fast, but then realized you are a bit further up north. I am giving it about another month.

No snow yet in Edmonton but there might as well be. However, it is suppose to be 16-18 C next weekend (only in this part of the country!!). My rule is always have the winters on before Halloween......

Yeah, keep that stuff away from here for a while. I never get the winters on until 2 months from now. Hopefully we won't even need them then for a while.

^^^+2, I'm still hoping that my new summer wheels and tires will arrive next week so I can run them for the next month.

Stay away snow

I've said it before: these Michelin Pilot Sport Alpin 2s are better on dry than the original Goodyear RS-A. Add to that my RS-A are nearly worn out after three summers.

The PA2s make sounds like suction cups but are wearing pretty well so far.

how many 'seasons' would one get out of winter tires?? I am going onto season 2 with my Toyo Observe's on the coupe but I wasn't totally happy with them. I have them also on my sedan x but they seem to work a bit better there.....

My wife has had a set of Toyo Observes on her Corolla for the last 4 winters, about 13,000km total. When I took them off last spring they were worn just a hair over 2/32nds of tread (13/32 new). If I figure on replacing at 5/32 tread remaining, they should easily last 40-50,000km.

I've had Toyo Garit HT's on my G35 Sedan for the same 4 winters, about 18,000km. They've worn less than 2/32nds (12/32 new) translating to 70-80,000km of useable life.

Our winter tires will need to be replaced long before the tread ever wears out. I'm not really comfortable with tires that are more than 5 years old.

^ I agree... winters rarely need to be replaced based on tread depth,
if changed out at the proper time of the year.

They lose their effectiveness with age as the rubber becomes less flexible
and the edges of the sipes & blocks become more rounded.
