I've seen a Toyota 4runner and have been pulled over by a unmarked Ford Edge. There is also a base 2001 Dodge Neon with lights in the visor. Cops have been doing this for quite some time. I've even seen a off duty cop follow a speeder, call in the plates, and stay with him until a cruiser booked him.

In my eye, traffic police resemble a revenue agency more than a do a policing agency. For example, I've had an encounter where I was literally going 5km over the speed limit, the jeep beside me was going 10/15 over. The unmarked cruiser pulled me over in an attempt to spot check my car.

Now, in that regard, who's going to cause more damage? Me? or the Jeep going faster?

Now ask the question, who's car has a better chance of raking in a bigger ticket? My modified car, or the stock jeep?

There is a Kojak with a Kodak living on the closed off ramp at airport trail NE heading south on Stone. He seem only to be after extreme speeders.

I understand what you are saying but I believe most people have 'out of sight, out of mind' syndrome.

^I would have to agree.
IMO, a visible presence is much more a of a deterrent than paranoia.

Don't underestimate paranoia. It's gotten me where I am today. Wherever that is. Shhh! Did you hear that?

i really wonder what would happen if you ran from these cops. I have heard stories about people doing this because they did not believe that they were police so they thought they were going to get car jacked or some of that non-sense. my friends got pulled over by a gm truck in winnipeg, they were undercover cops.

Too bad they weren't there today, had a white land rover pass us at around 160KPH. A few minutes after that an East Indian cut me off then puled back into the other lane cut some else off, raced up ahead and cut somebody else off on the off ramp to Airdrie.
I am amazed with all the idiots we have driving around here in Calgary and it really seems to be getting worse.

it's interesting, and i've probably mentioned this before, but in quebec it's actually illegal for an un-marked car to be used for traffic duty. the MUST have the high visibility reflective markings on them. they often have low profile or interior lightbars, and i've seen a few sneaky municipal force with white graphics which barely show, but are still reflective (ie, can't see them during the day, but still highly visible at night).

i guess it's another advantage to living here, (though we've got traffic cameras now, but you have to be a real dunce to be caught by one)
