You should definitely look into this. I have a chromed upper plenum and I prefer it over a polished one because of its luster and ease of cleaning/maintenance. The upkeep involves wiping with a baby wipe and going back with a microfiber. Takes 15 seconds and looks new again.

Thanks Deane -- it was sorta worth it. My hands are a little arthritic these days so when I spend some time on it, I feel it for a while after. But nothing a couple beers can't look after.

Thanks, I'll bet you can't wait to get that skanky core back!

I'm not a fan of chrome, either. I thought about painting or powder coating, but realized if I did that, you would kill me after you put all that work into it.

Looks great! It is amazing the difference between the two. A lot of hard work though.

Question

Just got a line on a full manifold- figured I'd buy it (120 bucks?! yes!) and do some work on it when I had some time.

But- being about as lazy as an eye, I'm wondering what tools would be needed and what materials might help make that otherwise painful procedure a pain free one?

Any particular products better than others? Currently I have Arms V1 and Elbow grease Mk1.

Saw a dremel at CT for about a hundred bucks- thought that might be worth a look... what grit sp were you using?

If you look way back in the thread, I think Gord posts the prep work and I can tell you you will need wayyy more than a Dremel. A die grinder would be ideal but a fast drill will do. You'll also need a set of buffers, different compounds, etc. I bought an aluminum polishing kit from Princess; it's not too ****-hot but it did an acceptable job.

BTW, I already told the seller that's too much for that plenum, IMO. With a name like yours, are ye not Scottish, lad?!?

In the past I've been much better at just throwing money at things in hopes that they randomly work themselves out.

Back to the ol' drawing board!

So what's that plenum worth, anyway?

Got home from our trip last night, so I am trying to catch up on a few threads.

Your polishing job looks fantastic Wayne, very nice work. Definitely worth the effort.

Thanks, Wayne and Danny! It's shaping up bit by bit. Hopefully I'll have a couple more small mods in time for the Alberta meet this weekend.

My only mod is the wheels (yawwwwwn) and a trunk monkey. But the monkey is at the cleaners...
