Shopping cart rant

So as I'm driving home from work today on Major Mackenzie towards Yonge St. low and behold there is a Wal-Mart shopping cart between the 2 westbound lanes. Most of it was occupying the right lane and the cars would just move closer to the curb to avoid it.

I was very close to just continuing on in the left lane that I was but then I just thought to myself "come on, this is ridiculous, how hard is it to get out of the car for a second and move it" so just stopped, turned on the blinkers and did that. Felt bad for moving it from the road to someone's front lawn, but I'm sure it's better there. And you know what, as awkward as I felt stopping the traffic to get out of the car and move the thing... I felt perfectly fine after .

A driver ended up stopping in the right lane so I could get back in my car as traffic built up pretty quickly, gave me some compliments, and on our way we went.

All I can think of is... some people just don't know where to draw the line. Obviously someone thought it would be cool to put it there. Yeah, I did plenty of stupid stuff too at one point but some things are not excusable. And then all those countless people who just "avoid it" and continue on because it didn't stop them... it's a freaking shopping cart in the middle of 2 busy lanes it's a no brainer that sooner or later it would be getting hit unless of course it gets moved. Something is wrong with people these days.

Anyways, if you read it this far, I appreciate it!

And watch out for shopping carts on public roads!

That is just ridiculous.
Thumbs up to you for eliminating the problem.

If I tried that here I'd probably get hit trying to move the cart out of someone's way. Damn Edmonton drivers.

+1 for you moving it though, not many people here would bother.

Are you serious? lol. I would have loved to have taken it to the side street but that wasn't possible My hope is that your neighbour didn't return it back to the middle of the road...

Just out of curiosity, do you drive the red coupe that has the license plate on the side of the front bumper instead of the middle?

I've never been to Edmonton but I was in Calgary/Banff this past March and got to drive. Maybe it was the tourist experience that sometimes deceives you... but it seemed like the drivers were more respectful than here in ON... seemed like people actually followed the left lane for passing rule. Just curious, are they worse in Edmonton or was I just blind?

Thumbs up

Props for doing the right thing.
If more drivers used common courtesy, driving would be sooooooo much better.

It seems people here are bad drivers, period. Maybe I'm just too jaded

I have heard from people though that Montreal is by far the craziest and worst.

you guys have nothing on Vancity (especially Richmond) drivers. we have some beauties out here. real numbskulls. add the fact that several MVB's have been busted for selling licenses to people who failed their road test...but depending on how bad they were the price was negotiable. lots of immigrants here too, who are unfamiliar with driving and/or our road system.
