Cheers to the Gold Medal World Junior Champs!!!

Not sure how many hockey fans we have here but, after watching Canada completely overwhelm the Russians in the gold medal game I felt the Canadian team's performance deserved a thread. While the final game was relatively anti climatic, the team deserved gold for the domination they showed the entire tournament!! What a high level of skill on this team. You can certainly tell that many players will have long careers in the NHL. Canada now holds top spot in all major international competitions simutaneously. Quite an accomplishment!

Cheers and raise a pint to the lads,

Right on. I watched the whole game and couln't believe the domination of that team. There is some incredible talent there. The Russians just could not get their game going because Canada was so good. They were all over the Russians like white on rice.

What a great team.
Maybe the best international team ever.

They frustrated the he!! out of the Russians. Did you see all the stick work going on

I'm glad it was a blow out. The best way to retaliate to all the cheap shots was to stick it to them, I was hoping they would hit double digits.
I heard the US team sent some personal messages to our guys to burn the Russians.

Nice to see them back on the winning track.
I enjoyed the tournament, since there's not been any NHL this year

Must admit I've hardly missed the NHL during this lockout. I've been slowly turning away from NHL hockey in the last few seasons as I've found the on ice product to be quite stale and boring. Thus, it was refreshing to watch the junior toruney, found the games more entertaining and in some areas more skilled.

Part of me misses hockey and another part of me doesn't. I really miss the hockey pools though!! I hope there is no hockey for a couple years.....if that's what it takes to fix it.

And I agree with you GK88 saying that hockey has become stale and boring. What is up with this trap **** anyways....man that makes for some boring hockey. That's why I have always been a die-hard Oilers fan....some good fast paced hockey!! I wish we could bring back hockey from the 80s!!

I'm with you that one.

I really enjoyed the style the juniors played.

The offense was predicated on a solid game in their own end.
Take possession, then great skating & 3 way passing to pressure the opposition.

The NHL brass should be taking notes,
but I'm not holding my breath.

It was a diciplined team. the sutters don't mess around. Sometimes I think Jr. hockey is better than the NHL. The kids have heart!!!

Having multiple players with 150+ point seasons, star goaltenders with a 3.50GAA, and the absence of the trap......where did those days go???

Like most of us I miss watching games when there was creativity, skill, and ingenuity in the NHL. I dont really miss NHL this year cause I stopped being a hardcore fan a few years back. And I dont think its just the trap or the rules that cause the game to be dull for the most part. I think its the players. I read quotes from Howie Meeker and Guy Lafleur saying that teams draft differently now. They might not have been drafted in todays NHL. Teams now draft for size not for skill. I myself could care less how big or how much a guy bench presses but, do care about his stickhandling, skating and ice vision. NHL teams use to draft for skill players first and this years juniour team was an example of what the type of freeflowing, creative hockey you get when you still value skill in your players.

The NHL has definitely lost a lot of Canadian fans the last few years.....and now with the lockout, I don't think the NHL will ever be the same again. I think there will be a considerable amount of Canadians that will give up on the NHL if/when it resumes.
