Summer tires vs All-season
I used Bridgtestone Potenza stock tires (I guess RE050A model) for 2 seasons and I'm going to change them in this coming summer. I will be living in Sarnia starting in May.
What tires will be good in Southern Ontario region for a comfort ride? The stock ones are All-season and I wasn't particularly satisfied with those (when I bought the car, they were already couple of seasons old for sure). FYI, I use 17" wheels/snow tires in winter. So, I'm really looking for 19" tires for summer/fall (May - October).
Therefore, I'm biased to go for summer tires instead of all-season. But will they be hard to control in rain?

I'm running General G-MAX AS-03 which were installed new with my car by the previous owner, and they are a pretty damned good all season, excellent dry traction, and you can still drive it in the winter without getting too hairy. They were dirt cheap too, I found the bill in it with the service records, $700 installed.

all season tires usualy have a slightly softer compound than summer tires
they tend to be noiser and grip a little better in the rain.
they are not particularly great for stopping and cornering etc but will be "ok"
summer tires will last longer due to harder compounds unless they have had
a lot of heat cycles (hard driving or hot laps on a track).
no one tire is great at everything but some summer or performance tires
run very well in the rain untill about 40% tread depth.

I don't want to be involved with this technicals, will stick to SUMMER TIRES. Tires23 quoted me $1180 for Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110 with full installation and balancing. That's same as Tirerack with their shipping charges from US to Canada. So, I guess it's pretty straight forward deal.

Where is this information coming from? I have heard/read literally the exact opposite. The tread ratings are given by the manufacturer using their own controlled tests and tread ratings for summer tires are much much lower than even the highest performance all season. Are you getting the compound of the tire confused w/ the sidewall? Sidewall strength is independent of the softness/hardness of the rubber on a wheel and summer tires generally have a softer compound accompanied by a strong sidewall for cornering, etc.
snow tires are a soft compound so that in cold temperatures they get harder
but they dont get as hard as summmer tires in the winter... this why they grip
better (along with tread design). They also can have a deeper tread depth.
Now using the softer compound winter tires in the summer will wear them
down much faster.
Rubber's ability to stay complient and resist wear is based on the number
of heat cycles the tire goes through... most street tires rairly see much heat
generated and so have milder and fewer heat cycles therefore wear less
Snow tires and softer racing compound tires got through many intense cycles
and go "off" sooner. Softer racing compound tires, after being warmed up
properly, go "off" after 20 to 30 laps. Thus in endurance racing we try to save
the tires somewhat and time and the driver changes with the point just after
the tires go "off" but are still safe.
Snow tires in the summer will react some what similar to racing tires...
We had a Porsche Cayman on the track this spring with blizacks and
a 24c day (approx 78f) and within 5 laps we saw rubber ***** (marbles)
and about 50% tread wear... once the tread wore down to 25% the tires
actually gripped like performace summer tires for about 3 laps but we
saw really tire hi temps.
Years ago we used to shave the tread on summer street tires to next to
nothing to use as rain tires on the track... but if left on too long in the dry
they blistered to the point of being dangerous.
All this being said....
buy the tire for your car that best suits how, where and when you drive.
