Could use some Noob advice.
Could use some Noob advice.
Looking at kicking my junker and picking up a 2008 g35xs on Saturday. The car has 180,000 km on it off lease, one owner, no accidents, nice condition, premium package $10,500. Im having my mechanic check it out tomorrow hopefully. If all says go, what do you think of the price? Is that a good deal? Would you buy a car with that many KM? All the hondas/acuras i have owned have gone 400,000 km +. Love the looks and what it offers for the price. Any advice? They have all the maintenance records at the dealership I would assume too because it was a lease.
Cant wait to get
something other than my 1997 acura el. LOL.

Im just really not wanting to spend much over 10k if possible. Others seemed to be priced much higher in the 16-20k range. Could go for a older model, however I like the design of the 2008 and available features in the cabin. This one is the cheapest available in this model in Canada that I can find right now.
WARNING - US guy invading Canada forum.....I'll agree with bludevil here, maybe look for the previous generation G with less miles if you need to stay around 10k. Buying a performance car with this many miles on it is a real gamble. No mechanic or service records can tell you the real story behind a car with that many miles on it. And all wheel drive only compounds the potential hidden high mileage issues.
I drove a 2006 M5 the other day with similar miles on it. Real cheap but I only drove it for the fun of it (it's not every day you get the chance to hear a V10 singing). I wouldn't be caught dead buying a performance oriented car with mileage that high.

Yeah maybe you guys are right, but are these engines supposed to last longer than that? Its only a 4 year old car. Maybe I'm crazy. But the mileage just doesn't seem like it should that big of a concern. I appreciate your advice. The older models just are nearly as sexy as the 2008 + .
Like I said, it was a lease so they should have the maintenance records at the dealership. If they are good, do you think the price is right?

Bushings, struts, motor mounts, differentials, transmission, window motors, seat motors, calipers - just a few items I'd be concerned about. I agree that the VQ engine itself would not worry me very much and should keep on trucking for many more miles. You're coming from Honda/Acura which is generally looked at as being a top tier brand for reliability. Nissan/Infiniti is going to be a step down to average quality levels. The price is certainly attractive, just a question of whether or not you want to roll the dice. Can always offload it if it turns out to be a dud.
