Sound System Upgrade

I'm looking to upgrade the sound system in my G35 Coupe. From all the postings, it looks like the head unit will have to stay. That leaves upgrading all the speakers and adding in a subwoofer. Does anyone have a recommendation for a reliable shop? And if there is anyone else on this forum who wants to do the same thing, we should hook up and see if a deal can be setup with a good shop. Also, does anyone know what the factory speaker specs (size and output rating) are for the Coupe? Thanks.

Re: Sound System Upgrade

In terms of shops where you can get the work done...autosound design (markham 905-305-8888) is where i had my previous install done, their work is amazing and the prices are the same. The deck can be changed, but then you get into expensive custom work to maintain the interior console. as for thier work, its phenominal....i had tons of work done to my type-r, which I had previous to my G and it was incredible. Mind you I did sink major $$$$$ into it. Nevertheless ask for Tom, or better yet stop by on Saturday the 10th, my car will be there getting its first installment of toys. The shop is located at Hwy 7 and old Kennedy.

Re: Sound System Upgrade

Thanks guys,

After thinking about it and speaking with a number of folks, I'm going to adding a 10" sub in the back with it's own amp as well as adding an additional set of tweeters up front. I find that the existing one's just doesn't cut it in terms of delivering a full range of highs.

Re: Sound System Upgrade

Hey PBB,

Where did you put the subs ... is it hidden or did you just throw it in there .... are you finding that you don't have any room left in the trunk?

I have a 12" Rockford Fosgate, powered by it's own amp in my 3 series .. and I want to transfer it over to my coupe but I'm worried that I'll be left with no trunk space!

Re: Sound System Upgrade

There is only alittle trunk space left... I can't be my golf clubs in the trunk unless I swap the big bazooka to a NOS-8 Bazooka...

Stock Speaker sizes

The stock speakers include a pair of 6-by-9 full range drivers on the rear deck, a duo of 4-by-6 full range drivers in the rear quarter panels (side of back seat), a set of 6.5-inch midbass drivers in the lower portion of the front doors and a couple of one-inch dome tweeters tucked next to the A-pillars. All paper cone speakers.

Because the speakers are rated high efficiency specifically for the Bose head unit, the speakers can't be replaced without modification to the head unit.

That's what I've learnt from the posts on the board.

Successfully Upgrading the Bose System

I've been able to locate a shop who was very helpful and honest about what needs to be done to make the most of the stock system. I wanted a cost effective clean install to enhance the sound of the stock system. I found that overall the highs and lows on the extreme ends of the sound spectrum were missing. Added a pair of dome tweeters on the door (on the window control pod), and a 10" sub powered by its own amp in the trunk. What is also important is putting sound insulation on the rear deck to absorb vibration. The result was awesome to say the least. Now there is a total of 11 speakers to keep me company

Thought this might be helpful to those that are still struggling to figure out how to kick the stock Bose system up a few notches.
