oil change not so easy

oil change not so easy
I finally did my own oil change, but not without difficulty.
First of all, make sure u have the right size filter wrench.
I ended up going to the store twice, because I thought I had the
right size filter socket, but it ended up twisting on the filter…arrghh.
So I went back to the store and bought a small filter wrench and even that
was too big for the filter so I ended up cutting up a spare bike tire tube
to wrap around the filter to make up for the small size and voila it finally worked.
One other thing, after removing all 14 bolts from the belly panel, how do u remove the plastic bolt to release the panel from the frame? I just couldn’t figure it out and I didn’t want to break it by pulling it off so I ended up pivoting the panel to get at the oil filter. The plug was easy to get at because of the access hole in the panel. Anyways for those of u who haven’t done your own oil change as of yet, these are the tools u will need.
1. 14mm socket for the oil plug.
2. Small filter wrench for the oil filter
3. 10mm socket for the bolts holding up the belly panel.
4. Piece of rubber (spare bike tire tube) to wrap around filter in case the small filter wrench doesn’t grab properly.
Now I just need to know how to remove the plastic bolt from the belly panel, it would make life so much easier. Does anyone know how?
Next time, it should be cake

Re: oil change not so easy
Very good dude. Changing the oil is fun, once you get past that pan. BTW the plastic clasp you're asking about: you have to pry the centre locking pin out a little first then you can remove the whole assembly. Enjoy your marvelous G bro.

Re: oil change not so easy
Dude...I do it because it gives me piece of mind that it is done right. I've heard horror stories of what can and will probably happen at those lube places, but if u trust them go ahead. Besides I've been my doin' my own oil changes for every car I've owned and I enjoy it. I just ran into a few difficulties because it was my first time with this car. Next time I'll be ready

Re: oil change not so easy
Even dealership can screw it up with simple thing like an oil change. Brought my car in for first oil change at my dealership here in Toronto last month and those SOBs forgot to tighten the belly panel. Ended up draging the panel for 20kms on the 401 later that evening.

Re: oil change not so easy
I'm concerned with going to the dealer as well. I'm planning on buying my own oil and filter and taking it to a local shop and supervising the whole time. For $20-30 bucks I don't care, but I'd like to watch.
Anyone care to suggest an oil brand and filter? Sticking with dino oil for now, will switch to synthetic later on.
