Tirerack customers????

I'd be interested in hearing from any Canadians who have purchased wheels/tires from Tirerack. Specifically how much shipping and customs duty was added on to your purchase?

I thought the rule was that anything made in North America passed thru the border duty free. I suspect that most of the wheels and some of the tires Tirerack sells are not NA made and therefore we would get hit a bundle by Mr. Dithers.

Thanks for the link, now I know how much to expect, when the tires get delivered. I was thinking around $300, but with the link have more precise estimate.

I did the pricing scheme with Tirerack and did the same comparision with good Tire dealers and Jerry Liu. Turns out after all of the duty, taxes, and shipping its only 50 bucks cheaper if you buy from them. You still have to pay for installation of the tires on the car by someone up here, unless you plan on doing the installation yourself.

I thought that I would order the tires from Tirerack and then have them installed in Niagara Falls on the States side waiving the shipping fees. But the problem here you my take a chance on getting nabbed for customs and they are just not nice people at all after that.

The cost of doing the driving to the shop and wasting time there and having lunch/dinner or whatever and possibly getting nabbed by the county mounties for speeding as they are targeting us Canadians over the boarder (They still haven't gotten in their heads that 55mph is too slow ). You end up spending more anyway.

I like to buy in Canada its worth it right now because of our dollar anyway, even better locally.... Right Jerry!!

So what if I pay 50 bucks more.... at least I'm not racking up the mileage adding more wear and tear on the car, adding strees that I don't need, the inconvience factor and of course can't forget that "Murphy's Law" is always in play. Face it dooo dooo always happens in some form or another.

Very good points Karim.
It is better to buy local if possible.

TireTrends.com and Harry (bigh) @ bigwheelz are two good Canadian alternatives.

Hi Landrover. I highly recommend tirerack as a supplier of tires/rims. Their standard delivery was extremely quick (shipped Monday, in Guelph Wednesday).

I tried to buy locally, but the prices just couldn't compete. I even emailled those that posted "good deals" on g35driver.com. If I would have just bought tires, maybe it would have worked out close as I would have had to pay to have the tires mounted, but that wasn't the case for me.

I got prices from $216 per tire to $272 per tire. Dunlop M3 for both quotes. There is such a markup on tires that even the same shops can't keep their story straight. At least tirerack's price is right out in the open.

My duty fees were a worst case scenario as the tires came from Germany, rims from Italy and wipers from Japan. Still save $200+ over anything I was quoted locally.

I whole-heartedly endorse tirerack and will have no problem ordering from them in the future.

Albert I agree with you here.. I tried locally as well, but when I got the quotes, I was still saving money paying the duties, and import fees.. So for those good deals, maybe they just werent as sweet... tiretrend has the tires for 1687 shipped, while I paid 858 US shipped... even if I pay 300 in duties, and taxes that 1350 at the most. Thats savings over $300.. Got OEM 18" Rims with TPS & Tires for $500 US (michelin tires w/95% thread).
