Continue on Rustproofing...

Hi Guys, new here to the forum but have been reading for a long time. This forum helped me decide to buy a G. I just picked it up 2 weeks ago. Anyways i'm here in Edmonton, got the 2004, m6 packag, silverstone.

Anyways so i just wanted to confirm, from earlier posts, that you guys thinks its a waste of money to rustproof the car and to get the undercoat? what about the paint treatment- i think its called permashine or something? thanks for any help.

i love my damn car.

Allen:

Also from Edmonton. So, yours is the coupe or sedan?

Ericksen does the MING package which I got. I think it's better than some of the other processes out there like PermaShine, etc. Most here prefer an aftermarket polish like CG or Zaino, both of which are great. One of my buds did the MING and still decided to do Zaino. The rustproofing may not be a great investment as some studies show that it can actually work against the factory treatments which already have a great warranty. Undercoating is mainly for sound. Keeps it quieter, especially over gravel roads, etc.

yes edmonton boy born and raised. I was thinking about the Ming package. the interior leather treatment and exterior paint protection. Didn't get it though, I have a family friend that used to own a detailing shop, anyways he's still good friend with the current owner and told me If i wanted everything done, rustproofing, undercoating, paint sealant he would do it for 300 bucks. you think i should do it?

Zaino, is that just a wax? where can i pick some up? sorry, i'm new to all this

I would (and did) the MING shine if you don't want the hassle of hours doing Zaino. Also lots of great feedback on Crystal Guard. Look through the detail forum.

Rustproofing probably isn't worth it. Undercoat is good for sound deadening. Depends what you want. $300 is a pretty good deal though.

Re: Continue on Rustproofing...

Welcome fellow Edmontians.

I agree with gordgee and fully endorse the MING paint treatment.
The G is my third vehicle that has been Ming'ed and I have no hesitation of recommending them. My last car looked like new when I sold it and it was 5 years old. The Ming coating was redone after it was 4 years old and it looked even better. Considering it was a red colored car, I was very impressed with the results. My truck still looks like new even after 3 winters of harsh salt and hot summers. (everyone thinks it's a new truck and don't believe me when I say it's almost 4 years old)

I also agree with gordgee and think the undercoating is a waste of money. As for the leather treatment, save your money and invest in a good leather cleaner and conditioner. Your going to have to clean it eventually anyways, so why spend the extra $$?

While your at it, I recommend the clear bra install for the front and have them put a strip along the back trunk edge. Forget about having the headlights covered with the clear stuff. Not worth it.

Other than that ....... ENJOY the new G!
