Gas talk! Milleage, price per tank, downgrading?
Planning on getting a G35 this summer from my econo civic, so definately have some gas questions....
1) Milleage / full tank?
2) Price / full tank (i know it varies but avg)
3) I believe g35 requires 91? my friend has a 330ci and downgraded to 87, i think he's nuts but he says theres no diff , anyhow anyone tried this? maybe not all the way to 87 but 89...

Let me break it down in Canadian measures.
I am getting average 12 - 12.5 L/100km and I drive pretty hard most of the time. With gas hovering close to $1 per litre these days and $1.15 for 94 octane at Sunoco, I am putting in about $70 per full tank (60-65 litres) and I usually go through a tank per week.
Hope that helps ...

Safe to say your civic will be better but you'll enjoy the G more.

I normally use premium but didn't use it during the icey and snowy months this winter. I didn't figure it made sense to burn the more expensive gas when defrosting the windows. I think the manual says at certain altitudes you can use as low as 85 octane.
I can't say I noticed a difference between 91 and 87 but how often do you floor it during the winter? I dunno if I ever got above 3000-3500rpm.
About 3/4 of a tank (according to the guage) is costing me close to 60 dollars now (for premium).

NetCBC,
In my M, I get from 7 to 10 km/l depending on speed, while my Civic gets about double that. It sips gas by comparison.
My G-Sedan got between 7 and 12 km/l and the coupe got about 8-10 km/l.
I hope you're not changing rides on mileage expectations, because you won't do much better than the Civic, and gas mileage is not the G's and M's strong suits.
I used premium on all my Nissan/Infiniti VQ's for optimum performance, but some can handle lower octanes if economy and not performance is what you're after.

This summer I actually considered getting a 30+mpg car to offset gas prices, since I drive a lot. I did the math and without boring you I would have saved about ~$1000 a year, but trading my G in would have cost me about 5k, so 5 years to break even. I guess the point is it wasn't worth it for me, and frankly I figure even at $5.00 a liter it's still less than milk, so whatever.
Since you're thinking of going *from* a civic to a G it's a little different. Just think of it this way, on top of ownership costs if you drive 10k km a year you'll pay about $800 extra for gas. $800/year extra to drive a G instead of a civic, good deal imo!

LOL, my M has a 76 liter fuel tank and our premium today is about $1.07 per liter. That's more than $81 CAD to fill it from empty.
The Civic on the other hand has a 50 liter tank and takes cheaper $.97 regular fuel. It 'only' costs about $48 CAD to fill from empty.
