Omg

Please tell me I'm seeing things incorrectly:

http://www.mp3car.com/store/product_...d61bbdd7701c37

Those dimensions, per God_of_CPU's specs for his upper glove-box-to-din-converter will fit in the upper glove box.

Am I missing something here?

after reviewing that it seems its within specs even with wires. all u would need is and adapter for the vga to hdmi (if u have the DW screen). since the product was just updated on mp3car.com yesterday, no one possibly has tried it yet.

Yes, this will definately fit in the upper glove box. I've been eyeing it for a while and will probably order one soon. I was just waiting for a little more feedback from the mp3car.com forums. It's been out for a while, here's a thread on an install.

I've been reading more about it and it seems to solve all of my outstanding issues with my current carPC design.

My only new concern with this PC is placing it in the upper glove box. I REALLY want to install it there, however there is a metal bracket in the back of the glove box that I am concerned will prevent me from connecting a monitor to the DVI port.

Any thoughts? God_of_CPU your thoughts would be greatly appreciated as you've dealt with this sort of thing first hand.

for the pix the and specs the mini pc the s-video is dead center of the case. so it depends on the location of the support brace on the G. hopoefully god can give the exact position of that, hopefully it will be just left of center. but if its center of the case i get started on hacking some of away with a dremal.

i did mopre checking and didnt find any info on the brace. but on gods instructions says not to cut the brace. but since the upper glove-box-to-din-converter allows the width of 7 inches and the case is 6.5 inches, so i would try to mount the case all the way to the right and see if that work and hope there is enough room. the plug is screwed in and it will extend about 1.25 inches from the case . i hope some one give this a try. and i hope this works!! if streetdeck has its owe g35 model i hope its made this way since it would keep the stock locations of the current nav.

The DVI to VGA adapter that comes with the Mac Mini is very small, I believe you can reduce that 1.25" down quite significantly.

I'm also thinking about getting this:

http://www.inmac.de/Inmac_assets/pro...es/E422923.jpg

And cutting the white plastic casing that surrounds the DVI plug. I figure if the pins/metal-part plugs into the DVI plug and becomes flush, you would lose no depth there. Then ziptie the bare wires leaving the plug and route them around the brace. With the VGA connecter being at the other end of the wire, this would allow you to make the chunky VGA connection somewhere other than in the cramped area around the brace.

I think I'm going to pick up one of these AOpen machines in about a week and see how it fits. I'll report back then unless someone else beats me to it.

The StreetDeck PC is a computer approx. the size of a kleenex box. It is meant to go in your trunk. StreetDeck does not actually make a "G35" specific unit. GOD_OF_CPU does make a stealth G35 carPC case that fits in the spare tire in the trunk, but this is a case only and does not come with any hardware or software (no, not even the StreetDeck software).

I do not know if they plan on venturing into vehicle-specific models of the StreetDeck hardware/software combos, but my guess is no.... it's a slippery slope to make a specific model for one car and then other people moan and complain and want it for their model and next thing you know you have a PR black eye.

Unofficially I'm sure the CarPC community will take whatever opportunities they can with any hardware and software that comes out and develop homebrew solutions for specific cars/platforms.

^^agreed. hopefully it will fit just right and maybe they can use that. and i read that god was planning on releasing a g35 edition on one of these threads, actually thats my reason for not buying anything if everything would be suppied by them. i hope it wont be the support braces that gos over the spare tire. if this one works i would like to see that in my car instead. i been reading everything for over a year so far from mp3car.com and from here, lots of stuff from your car too, which is great by the way, so im still up in the air until i hear something about a g35 edition of streetdeck.

I just bought this PC today. It should arrive tomorrow. I will let everyone know more about cable fitting when I know more.

Very cool. The only concern I would have with putting it in the top glove comp, would be overheating. Is there any ventilation in there?

I'm not worried about heat much at all. First, the casing is aluminum which helps disipate heat tremendously (and designed to do so). So is the DIN converter kit. The processor is a Pentium M, allowing it to throttle according to heat. Lastly, the drive in a laptop drive, which itself generates less heat than a 3.5" hdd. Heat really is not much of an issue anymore if you don't mod PCs and don't abuse the shi** out of them.

so far from what i read, most people use the carnetix 1900 to power the minipc, but does this allow the computer to boot up when the car turns on?? I am kind of a noobie when it comes to integrating computers into cars

but i am really interested in using this setup. i am sure that there is a way to get the computer to boot up using some sort of ignition wiring or something, but i just wanted to make sure before i started this project. Thanks guys
