So, I come back home from the grocery store and I find this huge scratch on my passanger door and rear fender. I just washed the car and bought some "scratch doctor" which did nothing. I dont think the scratch went through the paint but Im not sure. I think It is from a shopping cart. I just need some advice. Is there something else I should try using or should I just take it to a body shop and have them buff it out or whatever it is they would do? How much would it be to have a body shop take care of it? Thanks guys

 

Looks like a shopping cart did that damage!. Go to a body shop, or a good carwash and see if they can buff that out. If not, it would have to be re-painted.

my pops had a scratch like that. our body shop charged 30 bucks to polish/buff/whatever they needed to do to get it out without repainting it

now you would never be able to tell it was there

but it all depends on how deep it is

You can always fill it in with touch up (carefully and neatly) and then wetsand it. On metallic paint, it will still be noticeable, but unless they know where the scratch is, they won't notice it unless they are right ontop of it.

This last one you can slightly make out where the original scratch was. Perhaps I sanded a lil too far. Maybe Picus or GSRStilez can offer their input on this.



Overall for my first time wetsanding, I am pleased. In person, you can notice it unless you are cleaning the wheels or tires and even then I think I only know because I knew where the scratch was. Regardless it is 1,000 times better then it was! It was a pretty nasty scratch!

 

Questions:

1) Can you feel it with your finger?
2) If so, does it feel like it's in the paint (finger sinks into it) or raised above the paint?
3) Does it look like it could be a color transfer from a shopping cart?

If it's definitely a scratch (you can feel it, and it's clear IN the paint) you will need to have it filled in, sanded, and buffed *or* repainted.

If it's a transfer (you can't feel it, or you can and it's clearly raised above the paint) you will be able to clay and buff it out.

Let us know and we will go from there.

 

well i took it to a body shop and they took the scratch off in like 2 seconds with some kind of compound and they didnt charge me a dime. So im very happy
