paint doesn't feel smooth

washed car, rinsed, washed again. both times with dishsoap.

left it wet. used CG quick. couples sprays, wipe with damp cloth. move around car. rinse with hose, wipe with chamois.

this was yesterday. car is garage kept. doesn't feel silky smooth. feels like little grit or something

Re: paint doesn't feel smooth

Have you noticed if there is anything on the windows when driving into the sun? My car feels the same way, maybe it's something from shipping, this is my first "made in Japan" car, and they do come on a ship! LOL, my friends might argue with you saying "most babied" LOL!

Re: paint doesn't feel smooth

My car had the exact same deal. The side panels weren't too bad, but the hood and roof of the car felt like sandpaper! After trying CG, Meguiars Gold, and several others with no results on the smoothness, I bought a Zaino kit including the claybar. After using the claybar on the entire car, it's like glass. I can't recommend it highly enough, for $17 it's done wonders for my paint. I just realized I have the same "film" on my windows when the sun hits them at certain angles, sort of like a gritty haze. Im going to try some glass polish and maybe even claybar on them to see if I can get rid of that.

Re: paint doesn't feel smooth

Please post the results with the glass polish, I'd like to see how that worked! I'm sure this is just something to do with the car being new, be careful with the clay bar on the glass, I scratched a windshield one time with a polishing compound!

So, clay won't scratch the glass?

Re: paint doesn't feel smooth

until i joined this board i never heard of claybar. all that comes to mind is a big maroon clump of clay, like we used in school and you role this over your car. can someone elaborate

Re: paint doesn't feel smooth

ABQ,

babying car....
car is little over one month old. has 350 miles on it. is garage kept. never driven in rain, mist or even when roads are damp.

in the one month and 350 miles, it has been fully washed twice. can't count how many times wheels have been cleaned. if car is not driven in a couple of days, i still take cotton towel out and dust her down (lightly) just to get ride of any dust that might have snuck into garage.

ps. i said 350 miles. i doubt it's gone that much.

Wow, just 350 miles in a month? Okay, then you win the babied thing! I've had mine less than 3 weeks, have 600 miles on mine, I guess you have another car to drive!

ABQ,

actually have two others, but one is a lease expiring in 10 days. just traded in what would have been my other car (pickup) for a sentra so i can hold 4-5 and get good mpg.

Re: paint doesn't feel smooth

"Clay Bar" feels like play dough and comes with a spray liquid that acts as a lubricant when using it to remove the little impurities on the paint. This prevents you from scratching the paint when you move the bar across the panels.

Make sure you use straight strokes, front to rear, not circular, also do the same when waxing etc.

Re: paint doesn't feel smooth

Zaino is supposed to used in straight lines, not circles. They say it helps reflect the light in a certain way for maximum gloss and reflectivity. It's all in the instructions, though.

As for other waxes, I think they usually recommend circles. I've never used CG, so I don't know much about it.
