Waxing Help

This is my first silver car. Don't know if my problem is due to the color or the wax or just my poor wax job.

Anyway, when I wax my car, I look closely to make sure I have gotten all the wax off. Even had someone else look over the car last time. However, about a week after waxing, spots that I missed start popping up. I use a standard carnuba wax which is what I have used on all my other cars. Never had this problem before.

Is there a wax out there that is easier to see on a silver car? Anyone else have this problem?

Re: Waxing Help

can't say that i have.... the key is to do the car 1 body panel at a time. That way you wont forget if you've missed a spot or not.

Re: Waxing Help

I have always noticed things like that on any car I've owned, so I'd say it might be harder to find them initially because of how light the color is, like white too! I wind up going over the entire car once I am finished waxing, but still miss some sometimes!

Re: Waxing Help

All I can say is, get Zaino and don't look back. I also have a brilliant silver G, and although the silver doesn't show the deep shine that darker colors do, it makes a world of difference. I used Zymol, Meguiars Gold, and a couple others before trying Zaino. It's not even close, Zaino blows them away in both results and protection. I drove my car in the rain for 2 days and it looks like it was just washed, instead of being grimy and dirty. Try it, you won't regret it. And no, I'm not affiliated with Zaino in any way, hehe. Re: Waxing Help

i've found one trick is to use one of those 500W halogen lamps that you can buy from home depot to inspect your work afterwards.

Re: Waxing Help

That's a very good idea!!! One thing the "old" silver and gold you could tell what you missed because there was no clearcoat, and there would be black marks wherever wax was left, since the metallic would always oxidize, Thank You whoever invented clearcoat!!!

Re: Waxing Help

Thanks for the inputs. And for not making me feel like a complete bozo ;-). The light idea is a good one. I will also look into this Zino.

John

Re: Waxing Help

time to invest in a buffer and some foam pads . . .

yes they do recommend you do work one panel at a time, but you have to let it haze . . .when it hazes, you shouldn't have a problem seein the residue

meguiar's medallion premium paint protectant comes highly recommended - use with a DA buffer and a 9000 pad for a swirl free, soft to the touch shine . . .
