I honestly feel your better off purchasing things separetly. Sometimes the kits assembled by these folks include (and your paying for) things you dont necessarily need.
If you have a Lowes close to you, they're clearing out the PC 7336 sp which is identical to the 7424. They've been seen as low as $80.00 across the country.
If you care to PM me with your particular needs or concerns, I'd be more then happy to help you with product selections.

Yea some places offer the PC with three orange cutting pads and nothing else. I mean who really needs three cutting pads alone? The PC is on sale here $114.99 with some good kits if you need it. As for a package it depends on what your detailing goals are. If you want to remove swirls you'll need polishes, glaze to fill/gloss, sealants for protection/shine and wax for extra deep shine, etc. Each person seems to find their own combination that best fits their needs. I personally have had great success with the Menzerna line and this PC kit. There is a pad for each product so its pretty straight forward. Good luck with the detail!

I got mine from coastaltool.com It was a very reasonable price. I bought the pads from another site.

You could get the PC from Lowes for less than $100. I think I paid $90 on sale. Pad kits from many of the sites listed above are good as well but I personally like the Sonus pads sold from Autopia... I picked up the Sonus velcro backing plate and a set of PADS for about $25.

Try to see if your local Lowes is doing a clearance on it, it'll show up as item # 7336 SP (same exact thing as pc7424, except the 7336 comes w/ a 6 lb. counterweight) I got lucky, and my friend found them on clearance for 59.99! A couple of other people on autopia.org forums confirmed that they were able to get it for that price also. As far as a kit, the menzerna advanced swirl removal kit was what I went with. Came with Menzerna polishes (the bomb!), two pads, and some other small items. (from properautocare.com)

The 6lb counterweight is for the larger pads right? I'm guessing that we'll have to find a smaller counterweight if we want it to work with the pads designed for the 7424?

Well, the counterweight should be matched w/ the backing plate size...this is a quote from autopia.org:
"In general, the 5-inch counterweight (p/n 874011) should be used with a 5-inch or smaller backing plate, whereas the 6-inch counterweight (p/n 699933) must be used with a backing plate larger than 5 inches. Weight is the true determining factor for the proper counterweight, not the backing plate or pad size. If your machine vibrates excessively, you may need to switch counter weights. You will need a Torx driver (size T15, not supplied with the machine) to swap counterweights."

Generally you can find counterweights for like 2-3 dollars online. What they recommend on autopia is a 5" backing plate w/ 6.5-7.5" pads...so yeah, I'd switch over to a 5 lb. counterweight if I was using a 5" backing plate. For a 6" backing plate, the 6 lb. counterweight is fine!
