I'm planning on getting tints and i would like to know a little info about them? Like what brand is good. and what is the diff between dyed and non dyed. I'm basically looking for black tints around 30 percent. I would get 6 percent tints like in my 300z tt but (already came with tints when i bought the car) but other people drive the car and i am scared they won't be able to see at night when parking ( i have problems sometimes). What is this Lumar i hear people saying when i see people posting about tints? THanks for any help.

I went with the 3M Quantum. It has a lifetime warranty against bubbling, fading, and discoloring. It picks up the hue of the paint a little, which looks trei cool on my emerld mist sedan. You might try a search on tint as the HyperOptic (or something like that) has also been discussed and seemed to be of good quality.

Hi. I got the HP Quantum tint (limo all around) and i like it.. its reflective.. its not a dye based tint so from the inside the outside looks lighter than it would on a dye based tint.. I would highly recommend you go non-dye based for better results... If you search on HP Quantum or Tinting I think i posted some additional informatoin somewhere else in this forum..

This is what I have learned:

There are two basic types of tint:
- Dye based
- Non-Dye based

Dye basted tints are:
- Cheaper
- Harder to see at night
- Less reflective

Non-Dye based tints are:
- More expensive
- Contain particals of metal in them
- Reflective
- Lighter when viewing from the inside out

On my G I got HP Quantum Tinting (limo all around).. I paid aprox. $200.00 for all of it.. Usually tinting places these days give you a lifetime warrenty against bubbling... If you want pics.. There should be a few in the rides section if you click on my name....

Pestilence,thanks for the info on tints. I would have gotten taken. I now know that I need to ask some btter question of the cats doing the tinting.

Don't forget to tint ur front winshield...illegal..but so worth it...and tint the back winshield as dark as u can go...for thats were all the sun comes in from...

 

Note on non-dye tints: I've seen complaints in the forum that the tints with metallic particles screw with the radio reception of the in-glass diversity antenna in the rear window. Something to be aware of before you jump in.

I just got my HP Quantum tint today! It looks so nice, I really recommend it. I think Pestilence already described it. I got 28's in the front, and 14's in the back.
