Clay bars for first timers
Clay bars for first timers
The 145 clay bar that is available at carcaresmart dot com - is that a good choice for begniners....or is that one of the more agressive clay bars?
Zaino's Z-18 clay gave me excellent results in removing rail dust (after initial purchase my '06 G35 was full of this stuff), tree sap and some overspray from a wheel repair job. Make sure to always lube with Z6 or Z7 (wash soap diluted with distilled water). No mars or scratches, and make sure to gently rub over the paint.

I have 1, works great and much faster on the lower body panels when you know you are going to polish anyways

I have a related question on clay bars. I'll be using it for the first time this spring - I'll practice on my beater before I do it on my G. But, I read many posts on how to use it: wash, claybar, etc, etc.
But, I see a lot of inconsistencies on whether we should wash the car after using the clay bar. Some members say to wash after using the clay bar, others say to go directly into polish/wax.
What's everyone's opinion? Do we need to wash the car after using the clay bar? Or can we go straight into polish/wax?

From what I read, i believe the rule of thumb is that white/grey is mild....and red/blue is abrasive.

Clay Bars and how toooooooo!
One key in using the clay bar is to use lots of lube/spray so the clay moves
without draging.......follow the body line when using it.......run your hands
over the surface so you know the particulates are gone......then wash your
car completely. You don't want to add your wax to anything left on your
painted surface. Good Luck.......have fun!
