Repaint/Clear Bra

I'm getting my front (and rear) bumpers repainted today. Does anyone know how long I need to wait before doing a clear bra on the front end? I hate to have it get chipped up while I wait for the paint to cure. The shop told me to wait 90 days to apply any wax (glaze is o.k.).

I originally wanted to reshoot the just the front bumper. Today I see a huge chip on the back bumper as well. It just figures considering I was going to the body shop anyway.

The body shop noticed that my bumper also had an area where the paint was wrinkled/creased where the rear plate goes. I'm pretty sure the car was like that when I bought it and thought it was just the way the plastic was in that area.

The painter told me it probably happend during shipping front movement of the cars on the truck. Just curious if anyone else has similar "damage."

At least I can finally take off that hideous black nose mask today! YEAH!!!!!!!

Re: Repaint/Clear Bra

It doesn't really take that long for paint to cure and dry. There are pores on the paint and that's what allows the chemicals to dry, which is why the shop told you not to apply any wax.........wax and sealants seal up much of these pores; thus, not allowing the paint to "breath." Wait another two wks and your paint is ready for the clearbra. In the meantime, just don't get too close to vehicles ahead of you on the freeway. Good luck.

Re: Repaint/Clear Bra

i read your feedback and i'm curious/interested in this ":clearbra" or clearguard you are referring to.....is this a wax or coating for the front end? I must say i detest the little chips and dings that occur when you drive on the major roads...here in the northeast (jersey) they tend to sand and salt alot during the winter months....after a little rain or windy day the stuff is all over the road and then planted on the front of your car at 60-70 miles and hour.....might as well go to the sandblaster and screw it up yourself...my last car was in perfect shape with the exception of my front end due to the crap hitting my bumper and windshield....oh california sounds nice about now... thanks ...2old4this

It doesn't matter how close you get, I got a nice sized stone chip in my windshield today, and the car in front of me was at least a 1/4 mile ahead of me, I think it came from the other direction, it seems this crap seeks your car out!

Re: Repaint/Clear Bra

It's a clear urethane film that is applied to the bumper, fenders, hood, and mirrors to protect the paint from rock chips.
