I have a ton of this stuff going on (not my car, taken from detaildan thread)

and the detailer told me that its from factory and it could never be removed. Okay, then when I went out to see the finished results, he had all this white wax stuck in rockchip spots on my hood. My car looks worse than it did before on hood, but other spots look cleaner. I only paid him 75bux so I guess I just got a really bad deal on wash. He did use the rotary on it.
those are minor swirls that are easily removable .He sure didnt know what he was doing . You wont find anyone that does know what they are doing for 75 though . What did he use the rotary to apply wax cuz he surly didnt do any polishing . If your looking for anything decent you will have to pay 250 and up for sure . Wax wont do anything unless the car is properly polished and prepped .

I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong--I tried to apply a lot of pressure and it still didn't help much. Any advice? I wish I had friends that have done this before and could help in person haha.
If you want to describe how you were applying the product I can try to see where you went wrong. Did you read this article on polishing by hand? That should help. Also, if you aren't getting the results you are looking for, work in a smaller area and concentrate your energy on one small section at a time. How large of an area were you applying the 105 to? The proper technique will take some practice and there is a little learning curve, but once you get it, it should yield some nice results. A few things you can adjust to vary results: how much product is used, how much pressure is used, size of the working area, how much energy is applied (how fast you are moving the applicator), type of pad you are using... Hope this helps.

+1 the detailer clearly didn't know how to properly polish and as the04coupe said, anyone charging 75 probably is a good indication they don't know what they are doing. Those types of swirls and imperfections could be removed yourself with a quality random orbital buffer and some good polishes.

Let us know if you get them fixed.

Do you recommend any wheel waxes? I'm currently using a small solution of ONR and it seems to do a pretty good job. If I'm washing the car every 1-2 weeks, will a wheel wax protect the wheels that long or is just hype?

It certainly helps add protection, but it doesn't prevent brake dust from settling like some may think. What it does do is create a barrier that the brake dust cannot embed on your wheels as easily and it makes future maintenance significantly easier using something like your ONR solution. If you do want to try one, I'd go with the Poorboy's World Wheel Sealant.

1st on behalf of everyone on the tread i would like to say thanks for the 3 years of consistent and knowledgeable replies! DUDE UR AWESOME! If there was a donate button "and my accounts were in the positive" i would click it!

Ok heres my situation, my 03 sedan has 140K+ miles and most of those are freeway. I have dings, dents, and scrapes all around im thinking it would be best to get all the body work done and then painted all at once......However, im still gonna be on the freeway so do you think its a bad idea.....or is there a way to maintain the car new paint by consistent washing buffing ect? i really want to get my car looking nice again and want to know what needs to be done to keep it looking fresh even though i do a lot of fast driving.....once again THANKS

I just bought an 06 IP coupe and I have noticed that my headlights are a little hazy and there are a million tiny scratches. What can I do to shine them up and make the scratches disappear?

I have an infiniti g35 sedan that I absolutely love. My wife went shopping in it the other day and forgot to get out one very important thing... A POUND OF HAMBURGER!!! It was in the plastic tube and it sat in the 100 degree heat for almost 2 full days. When I opened my trunk on monday morning the smell almost knocked me down along with the flies. it had gotten so hot that the pack had split open and it was all over the liner in my trunk. I immediately took the car and had the trunk shampooed but the smell only decreased by about 50-60%. I now have both liners out of the trunk and poured baking soda all over them both and let them sit for a few hours before vacuuming. They are now in my garage but the inside of the car still smells horrible. I've sprayed lots of febreeze auto and left the windows and trunk open all night but it still not better. What can I do to get rid of this awful smell?

Thanks for the kind words, always appreciated

It's really up to you if you want to go through the body work. You can certainly transform your paint without taking care of the dings, dents and scrapes and get a lot more depth and gloss out of it. If you decide to get the work done, then you'll want to wait for the fresh paint to properly cure prior to going through the detailing steps otherwise you can run into some paint problems along the way. Your going to run into rock chips and normal wear and tear regardless, that's just part of driving your car, whether or not you want it to have a deep wet gloss is independent of that and up to you if you want to take the time to learn the proper detailing steps and techniques. A great starting point for you would be to read through our auto detailing guide and our Ask-a-Pro blog best of's.

Your best bet is to simply wash them with automotive shampoo and water and a dedicated sheepskin wash mitt for your wheels. This will be much safer than using chemicals that could potentially damage your polished finish. Be sure to avoid car washes as they often contain harsh chemicals that can quickly oxidize your wheels finish. Once your wheels are clean, you can protect them with some Poorboy's World Wheel Sealant which will make future cleanings significantly easier and add some gloss to your wheels. If you need a wheel cleaner, go with P21S Wheel Gel as it's one of the safest wheel cleaners on the market for just about any finish. You could also pick up an EZ Detail Brush for between your spokes and to clean your inner barrels. Hope that helps, enjoy the wheels!

Well you took the right steps initially. Your next step would be to get the carpets and trunk that were effected steamed or hot water extracted. Another option is to odor bomb your trunk or to have it fogged for odor removal. Either of those options may have to be done by a professional but they can help with your situation.

Certainly couldn't hurt. Check out these odor bombs:

That'd be one of the easier solutions without the need for a professional if it works.

A product we offer that is more glossier than others is Chemical Guys VRP Dressing. It works well on all of the areas that you mentioned. Another option for your trim and plastics is Poorboy's Trim Restorer, but wouldn't recommend using it on your tires.

For chrome wheels, you might want to consider P21S Metal Polishing Soap. It's a great metal cleaner that is easy to work with and lasts a while. I'd recommend grabbing a microfiber applicator pad instead of the foam sponge it comes with, it can help minimize adding any imperfections.

Hope that helps, keep us posted on how it turns out.
