California Dust Broom

Has anybody tried the California Dust Broom? My car collects dust since I only drive it on the weekends so i looked into the dust broom. Does anyone know if it leave scratches? It says that it guarantees no scratches but im not sure if i believe it. thanks in advance.

Are you talking about the "California Duster"? That's not a broom, more like a dust mop of sorts. I have one, it's okay, as long as you don't use it while the finish is warm, leaves some residue then!

There have been posts about the Cali duster before and yes, they work well. You may want to read this .

Re: California Dust Broom

Won't using the california duster cause swirl marks on your car? If your car is dusty and you use something like that to wipe it, aren't you basically moving all the dust particles back and forth on the surface of your car which would ultimately lead to scratches and swirls? Just a thought...

Re: California Dust Broom

I've used them for years and never had that problem. The duster has some type of wax in the fibers to prevent scratches.

It is intended to be used to dust your car on a regular basis, removing a thin layer of dust from sitting outside for no more than a day or so.

I wouldn't recommend using it on a car that is not properly waxed or that is extremely dirty.

Re: California Dust Broom

i don't know, perhaps i'm wrong, but i would never use anything to wipe dust off my car. any large particles would or could scratch the clearcoat. as far as the advertised "guaranteed never to scratch" claim, i believe that the claim deals with the fact that the cotton "mop" is coated with paraffin wax and therefore would by itself not scratch your car. any dirt particle sticking to it would very likely scratch the paint. you can always test it out yourself, try making a swipe and look where the dirt ends up, if it's still on the exterior portion of the mop ( which inevitably, it would ) that dirt is going to touch the car again.

just my 2 cents: )

Re: California Dust Broom

i have one of these and it works pretty good for "DUST" not dirt. for example pollen would be easy to take off with the duster and that wouldn't scratch the paint. another example: our dryer vents into the garage and leaves small lint specs on the car. the duster is perfect for removing that.

i agree with thangbu though that you shouldn't remove DIRT with it. so it has a specific limited use and is good for only that.

Like everyone else said, they're good for dust not dirt. Also shake it out after every pass.
