Just FYI- if you use an oil/gas mixture, you're blowing the exhaust onto the car, so... you figure it out

Electric is good, but make sure it's not dusty around the car!!

Not all gas blowers vent exhaust through the blower tube. You don't want to use one that does!

BTW, I find mine works great when your car is still wet after driving on messy streets. If the dirty stuff hasn't had a chance to dry on the car, most of it will blow off with the water droplets. Keeps the car looking cleaner for a bit longer between washes!

You would have to literally put your blower within an inch or two of the ground to suck any dust up.

Re: Leaf Blower works Great!

bought an electric lightweight (5 lbs) toro blower at home depot today for $30 JUST for the car. was raining and i used it in the garage to try and prevent water spots. it did a good job, was easy cause of the light weight, and i hope will minimize the full washes which i would like to keep to once a week.

I think the leaf blower idea blows! It's not any faster...however getting all the water from behind your mirrors is a big plus!

Re: Leaf Blower works Great!

I picked up one of those Craftsman Shop Vacs from Sears with the detachable blower. Killed 2 birds with one stone. I figured out that a blower works best when the car was previously waxed (Zaino for me). For both my Coupe and my MR2, the water just runs off when I use the blower. Then I just clean up with some white cotton bath towels. For me it saves a lot of time. If the car is in need of a wax job, the blower can actually make drying the car a pain in the a$$.

Anyway, that’s what works for me.

Re: Leaf Blower works Great!

definitely the leaf blower only works well with a good wax finish. if not it's easier to dry with chamois. the leaf blower still kicks *** with the nooks and crannies that hold water though, like the rear bumper/trunk lid, side mirors and door handles.

The blower works great-

If I don't have to rub material of any kind across the paint, then I won't. I've got a 195MPH Black & Decker blower which is a powerhouse and works great. Granted, I use microfiber to get the glass and door jams, but the blower works great for large surfaces.

Bottom line is this: even if it takes a bit longer...your reducing the likelihood that a drying towel might have picked up a stray and your damaging your paint!

I use a blower too. I think it works great! After drying the car with a microfiber towel, I use the blower for the front grills, the side mirrors and especially the wheels. Those recessed holes for the lugnuts are a pain, so I just let the blower clear out the water. It doesn't even take an extra 5 minutes. Then with a slightly damp microfiber towel, I do a once-over the whole car and that's it.

Re: Leaf Blower works Great!

be sure to have some earplugs. the first time i used my blower, the high pitched sound from blowing the cracks and stuff(that sounds bad) can make you temporarily deaf. really blows to be hard of hearing for a day.

It's pretty bad when you do it in the garage also.

Re: Leaf Blower works Great!

has anyone attached a filter or screen to the intake of the blower? Is it worth the effort?

Don't think it's worth the effort. The intake is usually right next to the handle. Most blowers, if not all, have a 2-3' nozzle on them so you won't be down on the ground to get the lower edges of your car. The intake on the leaf blower will be at least 3' off of the ground and sometimes more.
