3M Color-Stable Tint

Re: 3M Color-Stable Tint
Wait, I have the ColorStable on my G, and I got the impression it wasn't a metal film, hmmm, maybe I misunderstood. My last two vehicles, I had the 3M Neutral, HighPerformance, which is metal, and they still make that. One thing I have noticed with it, on the rear window, is some odd looking areas, they look "rough", only under certain light, and it can't be seen from the outside, I took the car back to the tinter, who has a good rep here, I've had my last three vehicles done there. Anyway, he says it's due to having to shrink the tint to fit the curve of the window, it's not on any other windows, and this is the first car I've had that had such a curved rear window as the G, so who knows. I do like the tint however, it looks really good with my color combo!

Re: 3M Color-Stable Tint
SPCS stands for "Super Performance Color-Stable." This is 3M's tint with metal added. It has a greater heat rejection than their "Premium Color Stable." (49% for SPCS 35 vs. 39% for PCS 35)
I'm considering the SPCS because right now, I have Formula One on my black/willow G, and the tint and the interior look green. The SPCS seems to have more of a charcoal/black/blue look to it.
Radio reception for me is not a big deal.
I also looked at the Huper Optik, and that looked as green as the Formula One.

Re: 3M Color-Stable Tint
The 3M SPCS tints are metallic. The CS tints aren't.

Also, metallic tint won't interfere with your radio signals since the tint is installed on the inside of the window so the antenna will remain exposed to the airwaves. What it will interfere with is a radar detector.

How do you like your non-metallic CS tint? Did you get the 35% or the 20%?
I called a local tint shop that installs the 3M. The owner said that almost everyone that gets 3M, gets the non-metallic type. He also said that the 3M with the metal in it tends to look a little mirrored. Has anyone ever seen or noticed this?

I like mine, it's 35, I always shyed away from dyed tint before, because of the fading, but 3M guarantees this for lifetime, so we'll see! I had 3m High Performance neutral on my last two vehicles, and yes, it does tend to look like a mirror tint.

Re: 3M Color-Stable Tint
Yep, when shrinking the tint for the rear glass, metallized film can turn color due to the necessary heat involved in shrinkage. That's normal.........but hopefully, it's not too excessive.
