polishing 101-

There is one way to take a scratch out "pay attention", you first clean the car of any dirt, they you can either wet sand it, or do what you did and compound it, what you did was lightly shave a layer of clear coat off, and dull it, so know you need somethig to polish it back up, which would mean you need to take a high speed polishing wheel, and take some compound, to bring it back to shiny. now the most import thing you dont want to do is called buring the paint which means you go through the layer of clear coat, and then your in a bad position, my suggestion to you as a novice, take it to a body shop or a good detail shop, and let them do it, you will just mess it up, and get your self swirl marks, from improper movement of the wheel.

hope that answers you, good luck.

The compound you are using might be a little too strong. You need to wax the car after also.

depending on the grit of compound you used, wax will not do any good. compounding needs to be taken in steps going from finer to finer grades. then it goes from compound to polish to wax. the easiest and safest way it to take it to detailer who will use a machine buffer with the correct polish to get the haze out. if you do not know how to use a buffer, you may do more damage to the paint.
