Porter Cable 7424

Just wondering guys if this is worth getting to use
with the top synthetic waxes such as Klasse and Zaino.
1) Will it save on time, 2) get a better shine and 3)get rid of small swirls... I have a black car so you know the work
to keep it looking good. The car was at Infiniti's body shop
and they washed it, man what a mess, never again..

Re: Porter Cable 7424

Never let anyone wash your car. Because nobody cares for it as much as you do. Especially not some guy making $8 an hour to wash 100 cars a day.

I love my 7424, I use it to apply Klasse. I also use it to remove. I spray a foam pad with a detailing spray when it's time to remove Klasse. Comes off very nicely. And using it with All-In-One seems to improve it's cleaning abilities. Also, use your 7424 with 3M's Fine Cut Rubbing Compound to remove light to medium swirls. It's a great tool to own.

Re: Porter Cable 7424

i agree. i just bought the 7424. i use it to remove the wax also...it does cut the time in about half compared to hand waxing. and it does a good job. good investment, good results (can't say great yet cuz i've only used it once)

Re: Porter Cable 7424

i believe leaving it on may be harder to remove. if that ends up being the case, use some qd to aid in removal(eagle one wipe and shine). as far as curing, leaving it on isnt necessary. i usually remove right after it *starts* to haze.

Re: Porter Cable 7424

The Klasse products do not require a large amount to be used........a little goes a long long way......
the thinner and even the coat applied....the easier it is to remove.....

I put on my 2nd coat of SG yesterday, and It took about an hour total.....put on a thin but even coat, let stand for about 15min. then started to remove.....any spots that were hard to
remove, I just sprayed a little SONUS and buffed it all out.....

I still would be a lot happier if I could remove all the scratches in the paint.....almost all are no longer visible, but I still have a few that really bug the hell out of me......maybe time for a PC 7424.........................

Re: Porter Cable 7424

Wooo big job, when left on overnight or on too thick, will
know for next time. I will get the 7424 just to make life
easier and from what I have read, its the only way to get out
scratches and swirl marks. Me too some a%#%^ was leaning
on my car's front fender and must of swayed back and forth and left some fine scratches don't notice from 4 feet but I know they are there so in time I know I will need the 7424..
Never park in front of a busy store at night where there are
a lot of clubs around..

Re: Porter Cable 7424

GR8TG35, purchase some 3M Fine Cut Rubbing Compound, and apply it with your Porter Cable.

Do not use the white pad that came with your 7424, use this pad:

http://www.autopia-carcare.com/lcm-76-2165vc.html

I use the white pad for applying Sealant Glaze, All-In-One, I use the black pad for removing (I spritz a little quick detailer into the foam pad to aid in removal), and the orange pad to do light duty cutting. You could also use the orange pad with All-In-One.

I'd suggest getting a few of each pad, and getting a velcro backing plate. That way you can just rip one off, and apply another without breaking your stride.

Once you feel your pad is getting dirty, switch to a new one. Using a pad too long might end up leaving swirls.

This is what I did to remove medium swirls on my Dad's 740IL that had been put through too many automatic car washes:

3M Fine Cut Rubbing Compound with an orange pad.

removal with black pad

All-In-One with a white pad

removal with a black pad

Sealant Glaze with a white pad

removal with a black pad

Now if that is too much at one time, just do the 3M and the All-In-One. Since All-In-One is also a protectant, you can always do Sealant Glaze next time after you've washed your car. But it's important to use All-In-One after the 3M.

What I do sometimes is just a panel at a time with Sealant Glaze, when I have a free moment! Maybe one day I do a door, the next day, the rear fender. Just each day do a bit, and keep going around the car! I dust with my California Car Duster, then clean with a microfiber towel and quick detailer, then apply with a white pad, then remove with a black pad.

Leaving Sealant Glaze on for long periods of time shouldn't effect the difficulty of removal. Most of the time people use too much Klasse. A thin coat, so when it dries you get a very light white haze. Good luck.
