I need to vent...

So I just picked up a 2008 G35X Sport Black on Black. Great car...love it, but noticed a buff marks that the dealer put in it. Why they buffed a new car is beyond me. The only thing I can think of why they buffed my new car was to take the line off that is created when they put on that protective film from the factory.
So about twenty minutes away from my home there is this place that I was told was the best in detailing cars. I'll make this story short.. I was told they were going to lightly wet sand that car to remove the buff marks. The finished product was a disaster!!!
They actually buffed through the paint on the drivers side rear quarter where it meets the rear door. They also buffed to primer on both sides of the trunk. They ruined the roof moldings that run along the roof and windshield. They also but in a nice new GOUGE on my drivers side front fender. And to top it off, marred up my drivers side front and rear door panels. I'm sick, and quite honestly I don't want the car anymore. I don't want aftermarket paint all over a brand new car that had 400 miles on it.
He said he is going to fix it, but I know it will never be the same. What should I do?

To be completely honest with you, you're lucky. Infiniti paint is garbage for the most part and even fingernails will leave fine scratches all inside your door handle area so be careful when opening your door....if you get new paint put you on your car, consider yourself the luckiest member on here. I'm sure I can vouch for most when I say, I would love to have my car painted brand new with DIFFERENT paint...by different, I mean anything but infiniti paint...

Funny you say that, I did notice the paint scratches extremely easy. Just rubbing lightly with your finger to get a bug off will scratch the paint. Seems like I have to keep the polish handy at all times. This is my fourth black car, and quite honestly i am not impressed, but as you read, a little scratch is the least of my worries at the moment.

Is there anything that can be done to protect the paint since it seems like it's so frail?? I haven't purchased a G35 yet but very possibly will this weekend. This kinda worries me since I've never had a problem with paint before.

Dude, you're story is awful. I get a stomach ache just thinking about that happening to a brand new car.

I wasn't aware that the Inifiniti paint was so bad. Do you guys know anything about the "self-healing" paint that infiniti is offering on some of its newer models? Will that help with the sentiments being expressed in this thread?

I leased the car, does anyone know if I can return it for a different color? I know it seems far fetched, but I can I complain that I am really unhappy? What would be the penalties for returning it? Black is so hard to keep looking perfect. I should have just got white!!!

Well make him pay for a paint job, and yea, black is a hard color to maintain, that's why i bought silver. But just return your car after the lease is up if you're unhappy about it... You can try returning the car, but they'll probably keep what ever you put down, and maybe even put a penalty on it also...

First off, paint is paint as long as it's all high quality. Infiniti paint isn't much different than any other paint, it's the application and way they clear it.

If they are going to fix it and use high quality paint with proper and sufficient techniques, then it should be fine, but I would be a little persistent on finding a neutral shop, not necessarily letting the same peeps do it who did the buffing and sanding, for obvious reasons.

First off,
I feel really bad for you that you are going through this with a brand new G.
That being said, I realize that what's done is done but there is no way I would have left the dealership knowing THEY put marks on the finish. The dealership seams to be the root cause of your grief and you should be speaking with them. My car was perfect when I picked it up last fall and it was the dealership that prepped it.

Black is not hard to keep looking clean and swirl free if you keep the proper wash products in your car cleaning arsenal. I put about two hours a week into maintaining the look of mine and it never looks dirty, inside or out.

I wish you the best of luck and a speedy resolution.

That would be the first point of concern for me, WET SAND(?) to remove buff marks!! Run next time someone says that. Sand paper removes paint, clear coat or whatever. If removes paint to get the surface back to smooth, but it removes paint none the less. Buff marks should "buff" out. Sorry to here that. My car was smashed into after 3000 miles, from front to back. I felt like I wanted to vomit. Ask to file a diminish value report through their insurance company. Your car is worth less now, make them pay for your loss.

I likely over estimated the amount of time so I wouldn't be exaggerating.
- vacuum once a week 15 min.
- wash once a week 45 min.
- quick detail twice a week 10-15min each time.
Personally, I find this little bit of time well spent and very relaxing. There is nothing hard or difficult about it.
If that seems like a lot of work to you then yes, a black car may be to much for you to handle. haha
