Microfiber what not to use

OK, I give, I tried some Microfiber products and they work great but the ones I bought seem to start leaving lint. About to buy new ones but I am so F#$% confused.

What is the difference between Detailing Cloth, Superior Detailing, and All purpose Detailing?

By the way who sells the best quality, I keep seeing posts here like "talk to my friends at _______" to get a discount but that just sounds like an ad to me. Everone claims they have the best, but who is telling the truth?

Re: Microfiber what not to use

ucanbyteme,
I found the microfiber towels sold at Costco ( a dozen for 8.99)
work great as long as you follow the directions. Before using them on your car, wash the towels in warm water with mild soap, (I use Woolite) and dry using low heat. The towels are great for polishing and dusting. If you are dusting your car, use meguier's spray and shine, helps pickup the dust. I have 2 black cars and the towel/wax combo works great. Also, invest in a California duster, they get better with age.

wash the microfiber by itself. If you wash it with other cotton items, the microfiber will pick the lint up.

I did that one time, by accident, but mine still seem fine, and I have the ones from Costco as well.

Yes, I know about washing them seprately, low heat, no softner etc. But after about six washes they have started leaving micro fuz especially on my windows. And I paid top dollar, is this normal? Do they wear out that fast??

I have noticed that on my windoiws from the beginning, I still finish my windows with cotton towels, also I notice the "micro fuzz" on my hood when driving into the sun sometimes, I use the micro fiber mainly for the water absorbency, and finish with 100% cotton!

Re: Microfiber what not to use

Here's a thread on Autopia where they talk about Microfiber towels. I've seen PakShak recommended.

Although I ordered my set of towels off a different site I haven't had any problems over the last year.

I got a my microfibers from pakshak and they are awesome. You guys have to realize that all microfiber is not the same. There are the good, bad, and the ugly. Pakshak has the good stuff.

I agree. I have a couple of towels from Pakshak myself. Excellent quality.

Re: Microfiber what not to use

Got mine at Costco, too (yellow ones, big package). Noticed they started "shedding" after about 10 washes, too - leaving lint.

Started washing them in "Woolite" wash, and started rinsing them twice, then drying without heat. Seem to last twice as long and look/feel better, but eventually they start shedding, too.

I just use those (shedding ones) for wheels/tires and underhood stuff, now. Guess it's time to research microfiber towels, now - I'll bet Griot's Garage has the highest quality, they usually do.

By the way, microfiber towels are by far the best for cleaning "Absolute Black" granite kitchen countertops, too!
