Engine Compartment Cleaning (Pics)

Hi all!

OK, I got photos of my cleanen engine compartment with 23K mi. on my car! I made a mistake on the product name I used in my previous post so I'll correct myself here. The product is called Orange Blast Greased Lightning Heavy Duty degreaser. I took 4 pics of the engine compartment after cleaning it today and it looks almost as good as the day I brought it home! I used a cloth to cut through the grime on the suspension housings and a cheap toothbrush on the risers and crevasses. I highly suggest those who want to open your hood this summer do this! I used a whole bottle but for $3.99 and an hour of my time I couldn't pay someone to do a better job!

Enjoy!

Nice work!.....your engine compartment looks like the cars brand new......
Did you have to watch getting the cleaner on the exterior paint?
sounds like it would remove wax as well.....

Thanks for the compliment!

The whole time I did the job I had a hose with me. Occasionally I had to rinse and then respray the degreaser on just to get the crap loose! Any time the Orange spray went on the outside or the headlamp housing i simply rinsed it off. I washed and waxed my car later that day and no problems with any exterior paint!

Re: Engine Compartment Cleaning (Pics)

Hi!

When I began to do the job, I had only driven the car about 10 minutes to get it home from a errand. It wasn't really hot but the temp guage was up to the normal position when running. I carefully took off the engine cover and I let the car sit for about 10 minutes. After that, I put a plastic grocery bag around the intake to cover it well and protect it from water. I hooked up the hose and started spraying the compartment from the sides inward. By the time I got to the plenum and hosed it down, it steamed a bit but nothing so drastic. Actually I was shocked because I know the VQ35DE engine runs very hot and it hardly steamed at all. No problems! After cleaning and rinsing the crap out of it, I took the bag off the intake, replaced the cover, dried it with the same cloth I cleaned it with after rinsing the crap out of that too and it started up real fine! The engine compartment is drained very well and all the electrical is sealed real well. I unlatched the battery compartment to see if there was any penetration and it was totally dry! That's a cleaning job for amother day. I want to get the right side cover and then put my Stillen intake back on once I get a new filter for it! Should look real sweet then!
