Cleaning inside of instrument panel plastic??

There is a smudge of something, maybe grease or glue, not sure, on the inside of the clear plastic over the instrument panel on my '05 6MT Sedan. I was wondering whether there was a relatively easy way to get in there to clean it, or whether it would require basically taking the whole dash apart.
I tried asking in the sedan forum but no takers. Thought maybe somebody in the more trafficked coupe forums would know how to do this. Thanks.

I had a some sort of residue on my intrument panel and I used Meguires Plastix to clean up the clear plastic surface. Worked like a charm.

Whatever's on mine is on the inside, so I can't get to it without getting behind the plastic that's in front of the gauges.

I accidently sprayed leather cleaner on my instru panel and temp panel. Looked like it was inside. 3m plastic polish was a no go. But the Meguires cleaner wax took it out with 2-3 applications.

I'd try that first. If it's truely on the inside, you have no choice but to take it apart.

this makes me want to try this. I have the residue on my plastic over the cluster, tried water and rag but without luck I sure hope mines on the outside.

Alright threadjackers , take it easy. I'm not worried about how to clean the plastic, I'm wondering how to get back behind it. Anybody?

maybe you should try what they suggested before you begin ripping apart you cluster. I dont know myself but im sure you could PM accordfreak seeing how he took out every light and changed them out himself.

Thanks, I will contact him. I just wanted to know what was involved in getting back there. No idea how the smudge got there (I am owner #2), just want to get rid of it if it's not too involved. I certainly wish it was on the outside!!

There's no easy way to get behind the cluster lense without physically taking apart most of your steering column adn the surrounding area first. It will be a PITA and you have to be really careful not to scratch anything else when removing or accidentally getting lint/debris behind the lense while your are reinstalling it. I had to replace the lense when I first bought my car because the dealership I purchased it from used some kind of cleaner on the clear part that etched it and left scratches on it. Then they covered it up with a **** load of Armor All so I didn't notice it for almost 6+ months.

Here's the link to the care and detailing forum.

It might have more specific help.
