Is there a trim blackener for bottom trim?

I am looking for a product to blacken the bottom trim piece that goes around the bottom sides and front of the car. Also, there is black trim around the mirror mounts that appears to be of a different material that I would like to blacken.

Can anyone recommend a product or a solution?

NO ARMOR ALL. This is bad for the finish. i will look for you tonight but a small white bottle of stuff i got at a high dollar car wash and made just for black plastic trim. The stuff wont leave white dry streaks like armor all and is very clean and lasts until you get more dirt on it. Peanut oil works very well if you dont mind the smell and the oily residue on your hands and rags.

I would avoid armor all too. It will streak the sides of car after the first rain. There is a product called Forever Black that is the actual dye that manufactures use (supposedly). I used it on my Explorer to dye the faded black molding (every explorer had the same problem). They were almost white. I used 2-3 coats of this stuff and it lasts for years. If you want to do the area near your mirrors, I would rather take it to a body shop and have them paint it. If you don't want to go that route, I would take the mirror off and test a patch of the plastic that will be hidden by the mirror first. See how it dries. If it's all good, mask off the area around the mirror (just in case you drip) and give it a few coats. Multiple coats will eliminate streaking. Also, with the mirror off, you will be sure to get the entire area. If you leave the mirrow on, their will be spots you just won't be able to reach.

Mother's makes a product called "Back to Black" expressly for black and flat black trim, I had used it on a previous vehicle, but haven't needed it on my G yet (9 months) it's looking good just keeping it clean so far!

Thats what i have - good stuff and easy to apply - i dont keep the "wet look" but use it once every 2 months or so as the plastic is easy to wipe clean with a damp rag.

Re: Is there a trim blackener for bottom trim?

Tracked down Mother's "Back to Black" and used it with excellent results. Thanks very much for the tip. I would also classify it as "highly recommended.".

For the first application, I was short on time so I just applied it right over the dust to see what would happen. I was expecting the product to be a black, "better not spill it on your clothes," shoe polish type paste. To the contrary, it was a milky, translucent, thick liquid which I applied and later rubbed out with a heavy duty paper towel.

The results were excellent, even with my poor application technique. It achieved about 90% of the showroom black appearance, and, with proper cleaning ahead of time and a couple coats, the black trim will look just like new.
