How to prep for clearbra?

I am getting my Zaino kit in the mail on Friday, and I want to wash my G this weekend. However, I will be getting a clear bra installed the following week, and I've read that you should not have wax under it.

So, what should I do this weekend? Wash, claybar, re-wash, and maybe polish most of the car except the hood & front? Or should I hold off on the polish until after the clearbra is installed? or another option?

Re: How to prep for clearbra?

I just got my Zaino kit to!! When the guy came to my work to install the Clearbra, he clay barred the areas where the clearbra was being applied, hood, front bumper, headlights, door handles, and a part on the rear bumper near the trunk. If I were you, I would wait till the clearbra is installed and cured. Im the type to want to wax the whole car and not just parts, IMO.

Re: How to prep for clearbra?

when i asked wil from mach 3 this same question, he just told me not to worry about it as he will remove wax residue and other crap on the car. i saw him clay those areas before putting the film on and did a good job of cleaning. after the clearbra install, there weren't any dirt or dust left over the film. just make sure the installer clean those areas really well. ive seen at the dealership where there were some dust under the clearbra and really looked like garbage.

If you are using CG I was told by Jim C. that you should apply CG befire the bra is installed because the bra does not block uv rays and your paint under the bra would fade over the years as opposed to the areas that are CG'ed.

Hmmm... An interesting revelation for me, as I did my clear bra before my CG application. I guess that I'll have to keep my eye on this possibility as the years go by... Though I do CG over my clear bra, so I would suppose that would protect those areas as well.

Re: How to prep for clearbra?

the 3M material is UV stable, meaning it won't turn color.
It is also UV transparent, so the paint will NOT fade differently. If it faded at different rates what would be the point...

Re: How to prep for clearbra?

According to everything I read about all the clearbras out there, they remove any wax where the clearbra is applied. And you are supposed to be able to apply most waxes on the clearbra itself.

Re: How to prep for clearbra?

You really don't need to do any prepping and sealant / wax on the surface before the film is applied. UV rays can penetrate the film, but this is why when you apply any chemicals on the car, you're supposed to apply it over the film as well.
