Cats recking my paint.

I have a major issue with these stinking stray cats that have been recking my paint. This has been going on for over a year now, and becomes more prevalent in the winter, as they like the hood of my car for the warmth. I can never seem to catch the little bastard in the act. This a neighbors yard, that I am paying monthly to park, because I live in a building a block away, and I don't want to park the G on the street.

It just really ticks me off after getting a detail, then to come out in the morning and see muddy paw prints on the car along with the corresponding scratches.

Here are things I've tried to combat the problem:

Car Cover - Tried it for a couple months, then got tired of the announces
of it.
Cat repellent - Did not work.
Black pepper- Did not work.
Plastic carpet runner, turned on the prickle side - I tried placing this on the hood for a couple months as a deterrent, but in the long run it started leaving the plastic imprint on the paint.

I am currently trying the moth ***** approach;I've read they hate the smell. I don't want to bitch to the yard owner, as he is letting me park there for a reasonable price... Short of ringing their necks, is there anything else I can try?

Sounds like a car cover is the only option.

This may be and expensive option, but I have seen car alarms that beep a couple of times when people walk by them. They have motion sensors installed under the car....It may be enough to startle a cat walking by so they don't jump up on your car.

Also, on most aftermarket alarms, the sensitivity of how much vibration triggers the alarm (or warning chirp) is adjustable. On the car I had before my G, when the alarm was originally installed, the sensitivity was so high, that a person tapping the hood would set off the warning chirp and the vibrations from a loud exhaust driving by or thunder would set off the alarm. This was quite some time ago, and I don't know what other kind of alarm technology is currently available. It may be worth talking to a local alarm installer to see what they can do.

Good luck with the problem....I'd be interested to know what you come up with and how it works.

The car cover is a suitable resolution, but I drive my car six days out the week, and found it way to cumbersome for me. I was using this option over the spring into the latter part of the summer. My consistency in putting on the cover slowly dwindle away, especially on rainy and windy days...

i've been having this problem for years.... garage parking is the only real solution.

i had some nassssty scratches on the hood of my sedan when i only had partially exposed car-port parking. it must have been a couger-sized cat because some of the scratches went down to metal!

I think this one might be a couger as well, because the scratches are deep...

^ I can't catch the lil bastards in the act, because I live down the block. I forgot to mention that I went as far as placing a stuffed dog in front of the car, which deterred them until they figured it was not barking or trying to chase them.
