what soap to use?

i have been using some cheapo soap lately (walmart stuff) if i want to strip my car from its current wax due to previous soaps that contain wax in it, what should i use?
are there any soaps that dont contain wax or additives to them?

i plan to wash my car then use some polish then a sealant this are my steps (real basic)

hand wash
hand polish with Menzerna PO106FA (no buffer)
and will finish it with either Menzerna Power Lock or Blackfire Wet Diamond

maybe my future thing will be getting a buffer but im scared i'll mess something up lol

A friend of mine and I did a polish/sealant session on my car last fall using a Porter Cable 7424, and it really couldn't have been easier. It was the first time I'd used a random orbital, and I'm convinced that what they say about a random orbital is true, you can't screw anything up unless you go out of your way to do it. We used a light polish the first time through and finished with some Meguiars NXT Tech Wax 2.0 as a sealant.

After that, the question for me wasn't if I was going to get a polisher, but which one I was going to get. Winter was coming, so I knew I wouldn't be doing that again until spring. Now I'm waiting to close on a house, but after that I'm getting one for sure. Can't really justify the Flex 3401, even though it's my favorite, so I'm getting either a PC 7424XP or a Griot's.

EDIT: Sorry, no idea on soap. I'm looking into this as well. I've been using Meguiar's Deep Crystal.

I know the Zaino folks always talk about using Dawn dish soap to wash the car to safely/gently strip off any wax that is on the car...

You dont want to use Dish soap consistently, it will dry out your plastics and cause issues.

Meguiars Gold Class Soap and Conditioner is a very good soap its like 10 bucks.

ya zaino reccomends using dawn before using there polish...You can also use a ISA spray which is a combo of alcohol and water 50:50 but when i did it I did 30:70 (alcohol to water) and it still smelt pretty strong.

From what I heard, if you use dish soap, it specifically has to be "dawn", becuase supposedly it's the mildest of all the dish soaps.

Yeah, I use Meguiars soap... But I thought Meguiars soap doesn't strip wax off your paint, as I remember mine saying something to that effect... Tho I use NXT soap, so maybe it's just that one...

yea i dont think it will strip it either, my best bet will be a 1:1 blend just to keep it safe.

Dish soap to strip the wax before polishing. After that you can use pretty much any car wash soap. Don't know that any really perform better than others.

Just use Dawn. It's gentle on the paint and is more effective than most for de-greasing and removing old wax.

+1 for the ISA wipe down. as stated earlier, why risk drying out the vinyl/rubber and dulling the plastics, thus forcing you to recondition them later?
