Shine Help!

Hey guys just trying to make a long story short here.. I just got an 07 sport bumper painted and installed and well the bumper is really shiny and it makes the rest of the car look dull.. anyway to make it all match..

I heard rubbing compound will help remove all the dirt in the clear coat and help it shine again with wax after?

the dullness comes from swirls ans scratches on your clearcoat. Light reflects differently off that then a smooth clear coat ie your new painted bumper.

you will either need to compound then polish or just polish to remove defect. then keep it waxed.

Do not wax or polish your new bumper for a month or two.

You need to wash, clay, and polish your car. The level of polishing (light polishing vs aggressive compounding) will depend on how good or bad the current condition of the paint is.

Lots of good info in this forum if you just search.

"Polish" is typically synonymous with "compound." There are different grades -- as in how abrasive they are -- heavy, medium, light, and anywhere in between.

the paint isnt horrible.. its just that the newly painted bumper looks so much better then the rest of the car.. the guy that i had bought the car from left it in the sun all the time i think..

So then compound + polish + wax?

Compound and polish are same thing.. A compound is just a stronger more abrasive polish..

Here's what will do the trick meguiars m105 and follow up with meguiars m205 and your car will look like your new bumper...

105 is an ultra cut compound; follow through with 205 which is an ultra polish.

+1 Do not wax your freshly painted bumper for atleast 30-90 days. You can use a glaze to protect it in the mean time.

If you have never detailed your ride and don't have access to a buffer you'd be better off having your ride detailed. Not sure where NoHo is otherwise I could recommend someone to help you with this issue. Rubbing compound is not a good idea....
