Toothpaste? Is this just smearing it on in a thick coat and letting it sit? Or is this getting the toothpaste and essentially "scrubbing" your headlights with a cloth?

Uh Why in the world you use toothpaste? Get some Compound which is made to do what you want to do.

^ Then you will need to sand, I had mines done 1500 gritt and now I wax them weekly.

What are the chances I could **** everything up?

Do you just sand it down. Followed by a wash and rinse, and polish/wax?

Well if you are going to sand you will need a buffer to buff the sanding marks out, Do you have a DA or Rotary?

Well it prob will take a long time by hand, but I guess you could do it.

I do all my wet-sanding by hand and polish up with a cordless. Have a look...

I use 4 or 5 different wetordry abrasives and polish with 3 different compounds. Then I lay on a UV sealant so it leaves a hard, protective finish.

wax your headlights everytime u wash your car...I do it everyweek when i was my car, and they still look brand new..
