Zaino newbie question - Z2 & Z5

I just ordered a set of Zaino products for my new G-coupe, and I have a question for those experienced with it.

I ordered both the Z-2 and Z-5 polishes. My car is still new enough that the paint is still nearly flawless. However, on close inspection I found 2 very thin but somewhat long scratches along each side of the roof. They don't look very deep, fortunately.

My question is, when I use the Z5 to remove those scratches, will I have to then do the entire body with Z5 in the first coat? Or am I allowed to just apply Z5 to the local area of the scratches, but then use Z2 for the rest of the first coat?

In other words can you mix Z2 & Z5 on the same coat, or must they always be applied in totally separate coats?

(FWIW, I will be claying the car before polishing, if it matters.)

Thx,
K

You can apply both. It's been my experience that Z5 does not remove or hide light scratches. It may hide it a little bit, but after a couple of dozen coats of Z5 on my other black car I had, the scratches were still there. Best thing you could do about it is to use 3m's swirl mark remover, then polish.

Re: Zaino newbie question - Z2 & Z5

what do you mean by that ... meaning "then polish"

do you mean use the 3m swirl remover and then the Z5? and then Z2?

or are you talking about something I have seemingly missed.

Later g's

Re: Zaino newbie question - Z2 & Z5

As rstark mentioned Z-5 only fills in the swirlmarks. Scratches on the other hand wether it is light or deep need to be buffed out. After whatever product you use to get rid of the scratch, you will probably have to dawn was your car, cause it will leave an oily film that Zainos doesn't bond to well. Then you can use Z5 to hide the swirls (probably you will have some after removing the scratch). You don't have to Z5 your whole car since it is fairly new, but it doesn't hurt to do the whole car. Both products (z5 and x2) are compatible with each other.

Dally, since Zainos is not a wax, we use the word polish instead. So the steps are 3m Swirl remover - > Dawn wash (just do this once to prep the car and strip all way from it) -> Z5 and then Z2. I would also get the finishing spray also, I think it is Z-6.

You can go here for more info on how to apply Zainos. I buy all my Zainos product from this guy, who lives in the Los Angeles Area.

Re: Zaino newbie question - Z2 & Z5

Thanks, guys. I think understand the general procedure.

I hope the 3M is mild stuff. The scratches I mentioned are so faint, you can't really see them unless you know exactly where to look. So I'm loathe to even buff them out, not wanting to erode the surrounding clearcoat. I'm lucky so far, since the rest of my finish is pretty much still perfect. I just want to get some solid protection on it while it still is.

I hope my Zaino gets here quick!!!

3m swirl remover (39009) will not be harsh on graphite . . .

use a randon orbital polisher - and do it lightly is steps -
apply and use -
wipe off,
check if you are satisfied - if not, so it again

better in steps to reach the finish line, than to run rught past it by overdoing the job . . .

i did a customers blackcorvette the other weekend - you want to talk about being very cautious - soft clearcoat and all . . .
it took me two hours to do the whole car to near showroom .. 3 layers i did . . . .

Re: Zaino newbie question - Z2 & Z5

Well, I finally got a couple coats of Zaino applied to my car yesterday, after several rained-out weeks here in the Northeast (my G has become quite the garage queen this month ). I went the whole nine yards on the prep work, including the full clay bar treatment, and detailed every corner of the car, including the wheels, and I must say I am extreeeeemely happy with the results!

I mainly chose Zaino for it's reputed durability and protection, but, much to my surprise the shine has actually exceeded my expectations. Once the Z6 went on, the thing just looked electric! Now I see why they call it "show car polish." It makes even a newbie like me look like a Pro! I can't wait to get some more coats on my car.

The main thing I wanted to report was that I elected not to use the 3M compound on my scratches, and the Zaino Z5 made them totally dissapear after only the 1st coat. I can't find any trace of them at all, and I know exactly where they are.

I know that deeper scratches probably would've required more industrial strength scratch remover. But for less severe scratches like I had, the Z5 really does work as advertised!

Just wanted to say thanks much for all the advice, including those who wrote me privately.

Great stuff this Zaino!

I'm glad you had good results with Zaino. It's time consuming and kills your arms, but the results are outstanding. I always Z-5 2 coats, b4 applying Z-2 (2 coats), and Z-6 inbetween coats. Results are fantastic..... Post some pics for us all to see bro......

How does it kill your arm? This is the easiest polish I've ever used. Applying a very thin coat on the car is very easy. Taking it off is very easy. No dust. Applying Z6 is extremely fast too. Am I missing something? I've been using this for almost two years (other car was a black S2000).

It's like this bro---------

..."What I used to do all night, now takes me all night to do"...
Lol, at my age everything is a struggle.

All kidding aside, it is one of the easiest polishes I've used. I love it so much, when I Zaino I put on multi coats and wear myself out. hahaha

Re: Zaino newbie question - Z2 & Z5

Truth be told, I am a little sore. Then again, I'm not as young and cut as I used to be either.

Zaino is pretty easy stuff to use, especially compared to conventional waxes. But I used to use NuFinish liquid many years ago, and that remains the easiest stuff I ever used, by far. Quicker and easier on and off, and very nice results too, with only one step. It sold me for life on durable polymer-type polishes over natural wax. Underrated product.

For this car, though, I really wanted to invest in something well established at the top of the class. I also considered Crystal Guard, Klasse, and BlackFire, all of which sound to be as easy, if not easier to use than the Zaino system.

But I ended up choosing primarily between Crystal Guard and Zaino, and from what I could gather, it just seemed like Zaino has a longer track record of durability at this point. So that's the main reason I went with it.
