Washing da G

Hello Everyone,
I'm relatively new to the forum and I have found the quality of information and individuals to be outstanding.

With this I am also a new G35 owner, as a matter of fact this is the only new car I have ever owned (I have always bought used ones in the past). Anyhow I have read a lot about washing and waxing the G, and a lot about microfiber towels. So I have a very stupid question. I washed my G yesterday for the 1st time. I had read that I should dry with microfiber in order to eliminate swirls form showing up. Well I tried that and it seemed to me that the microfiber was not absorbent enough to actually dry the car. They actually left a "water haze" which dried and left a light dirty haze on the car. Now my G is black and of course everything shows. My question is do you all dry the car with a chamois and then use the microfiber for the wax process?

Thanks,

Re: Washing da G

Do not use a natural chamois to dry the car. The chamois can leave it's own natural oils behind and can even strip the wax/polish. Use a synthetic like the 'ABSORBER' or I've heard good things about the Turtle version as well for 1/2 the price. With these and chamois (if you choose), hold the sheet by the adjacent corners and lightly let it's own weight drag across the car (like a bed sheet). Don't just ball it up and wipe down like a rag.

The California Waterblade is also great to dry a newly washed car and can significantly speed the process. Microfiber is good to finish up.

I use a synthetic charmois on my black sedan and it works great. I would recommend it to anyone. As the real charmois, i've never used one so i can't comment on it.

BTW, the synthetic is also cheaper.

This might sound weird, but I use a electornic leaf blower on my car to get rid some of the water on my car. Next I use a big blue microfiber towel to dry off my G. California Waterblade is very effective. But I had a bad experience with it on my black car, so I refuse to use it again.

The best thing is the synthtic chamois like the Absorber. Its a rubber like cloth that lasts forever. Just keep it moist and in the can it comes in. No streaks or swirls. Stay away from the CA waterblade, because it can scratch. Natural chamois is OK, but such an unecessary pain to take care of and $$$

Leaf Blower followed by the "Absorber" to catch what did not get blown off. Better when you keep your "G" "waxed"!
Some of us are waiting for more feedback on the Crystal Guard.
In FL, NOTHING last more than 2 months so far, personal preference of course, I want the water to constantly bead and run right off. Too **** according to some people.

Re: Washing da G

Sheeting the water off your car helps so much. Just letting that solid stream of water run off the car really causes most of the water to go with it. I usually then go over it with a synthetic chamois, followed by a soft fluffy towel for that little bit of moisture left behind. I know some people like microfiber better then terrycloth, but as long as it clean and fluffy/soft, a towel has always worked well for me.

Re: Washing da G

Thanks everyone,
I know washing a car should be one of those things that everyone knows how to do like tieing your shoes!

I'm going to do a wash and wax this weekend and now I feel much better armed with knowledge

Re: Washing da G

I do the same, I take the nozzle off of the hose then just let the water flow out of the hose on the car and this removes the majority of water beads, then I dry with a nice fluffy cotton towel then I power up my gas leaf blower for the side mouldings, mirrors, spoiler, grill, lights, wheels and all the other little nooks and crannys I missed with the towel
