Newb needs help! (Zaino related)

Well the title says it alll. My G will be here within a month, and I want to start preparing for her arrival.

First question, I'm going do the "Zaino thing", when everyone on this forum talks about the starter kit, do you mean the $85 one (http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/...ct_Code=ZKIT-1)?

This kit comes with two custom applicators... This is where I'm lost... What do I need for MF towels/applicators etc...?

Thanks for your help/recommendations.

That's a good kit, but if you want to save some money I would just get.

ZFX™ Flash Cure Accelerator Additive
Z-2 PRO™ Show Car Polish for Clear Coated Car Finishes
Z-6™ Ultra Clean Gloss Enhancer Spray

You don't need Z-5 (yet) and the Clay Bar if you take care of your car. If you have a dark colored car, then definitely get the Z-5 to hide the swirl marks.

MF towels are needed to wash you car. Also to remove the polish from your car. Don't use anything else (including the ones that come with the kit. Use those to gloss your tires . The applicator is used to apply Z-2 on your car.

Zainos tip:
#1 Less is more. Apply very little. Sometimes when I apply Zainos, I can barely see the haze.
#2 When mixing the accelerator I use a BIG Syringe. Those little bottles that come with it, are a pain. With a syringe you can use ever bit of Zainos mixed.

Microfiber products can be purchased from the net. I've tried many different companies MF products and the best one so far is Vipers Microfiber products. They are thicker than the lower priced microfiber products from other vendors. Where I get my Microfiber Stuff

1) yes that is the starter kit.
2) read the whole site, in particular application. it tells you what to use. use the applicators it comes with to apply Z2 and Z5 and use a 100% white USA towel to remove.
i personally use and like MF towels for the Z6 and all washing needs: scrub, dry, detail (z6)...etc
good luck, its worth it!

Thanks for the info. With the MF products, would this kit be good to start off?

Inspect your paint carefully when you take delivery of your G. When I got my Z, the dealer had used an orbital on the paint. I had swirl marks everywhere. I had use Ultra Fine 3M compound to get rid of the swirls. That also got rid of any of the wax base from the dealership.

I then followed that up with the following from Zaino:

ZFX
Z2
Z6 (for enhancing between apps)

Keep in mind, Zaino will work wonders on darker finish vehicles. Lighter shades will have some shine but not the same level "wet" glow after repeat applications. You don't need the "special applicators" to apply Zaino. I just use a soft cotton towel now. To remove Z2, I use soft white cotton hand towels from the department stores. They cost a bit more, but tends not to leave marks. (vs bulk cotton towels from auto stores)

Don't remove Zaino like the Karate Kid either. That will leave slight swirl marks that's easier to see under bright light. For verticle areas (like the doors), remove the Z2 with a motion from roof to ground. For horizontal areas (like hood), remove with a front to back motion.

Hey, I just switched over to Zaino (from CG) and I have a few questions too. Hope you guys can help.

1) I have a white coupe and it REALLY hard to tell where I've put the polish on and where I haven't... (no matter how much or little Z2 I use) any advice on this?

2) On sunday, I did the following: Dawn wash, Clay bar, Z7 wash, Z5 w/ZFX, buff with Z6. I ran outta time but I wanna put another coat of Z5 and then Z2. Question is, do I need to wash again or just wipe it down before I put the next Z5 on?

3) How hard should I be rubbing to put Z5/Z2 on the car? seems like since you only put a little dab of Z5 on the sponge, you gotta press pretty hard to get it onto the car. is that right?

Coming from CG, I'm used to just spraying liberally and spread lightly kinda thing.
Thanks!

1- It may help to apply in your garage at night under incandescent light. This may help you distinguish the haze a bit.

2- I usually just give it a rinse down and dry. That will get rid of the dust on the surface.

3- On my applications, it only takes slight pressure to apply.

That kit is good. I would also get another big blue towel.

SO you shouldn't use a Microfiber towel to polish Zaino?

I don't. The MF is awesome but PITA to buff to luster. I usually hit Kohl's or someplace and pick up white, cotton hand towels without embroidering. They usually run about $6-8 a piece depending on brand. I know you can get cheaper bulk cotton towels, but the hand towels are worth it to me. They're soft enough that they don't leave the super fine scratch marks when buffing Zaino.

I used MF towels to buff off Zaino and although you get some remaining streakiness, it comes off n buffs to a ahigh luster if you spray it with Z6 right after. When I got bored and switched to the 100% cotton, thats when I got swirls. Takes the Zaino off much easier, but it ruined my swirl free finish!

You need to get white luxury hand towels if you use cotton. The looms are softer and fuller. White because certain color dyes will affect the softness of cotton.

You shouldn't buff wax or Zaino like Mr. Miyagi does. No circular motions. Fine circular scratches are easier to spot with the eye then linear. See my previous post above. It's a little tip I picked up from guys in the show car circuit.

Yeah I hear ya and understand that. I couldn't find the fieldcrest or cannon towels so I found a ralph lauren, white, 100% cotton, made in USA towel. It was like $30 on sale! LOL I still don't trust it. I had great results with MF so I am gonna stick to that! LOL I'd rather not take the chance on a black car. Thsi is why peeps say if aint broke, don't fix it! That's what I got for trying to fix something that wasn't broken! LMAO
