Finally applied the 3 step Crystal Guard today

I finally had the time (and weather) today to apply the CG pro kit. My process:

I went to one of the local DIY washes last night and washed the car. I mainly go there for the soft water. I found that my hard water is horrible on the car. So I bring all of my own stuff - soap, mit, towels, tire brush, etc, and just use their water. It usually costs around $7-8 for enough time to get it all.

2. I didn't didn't know how hard water would work with the application process and I didn't want to drive back there for each step so I went and bought one of those pump/pressure garden sprayers for $20 and filled that with softened water from my sink. It seemed to work really well. I wet the car down and applied the Primer coat. I didn't want to spend the money on a gravity feed gun and compressor so I just used a small squirt bottle. The process would definately have been MUCH better with the GF gun. I then rinsed the primer off with the soft water and the microfiber cloth. Then dried the car

3. Sprayed on the base coat. I ended up spreading it around with a polish sponge that I'd bought. It seemed to work well enough, but again the whole thing would have been much quicker and more even with the GF gun.

4. Let it sit for about 5 hours. It says it needs atleast 2-3. Jim Campos told me that some of their customers let it sit for a whole day between coats. I couldn't want that long.

5. Rinsed off the base coat with water and microfiber towel. Dried the car.

6. Sprayed on the top coat using the same technique as the base coat. Something that Jim pointed out to me and that I experienced is that you use a lot more doing it this way than you would if you use a GF gun where they say you can get by with only 1/2 the bottle. It took me almost the whole bottle.

7. Let it sit for another 5 hours.

8. I'm just about to go and rinse off the top coat and will hopefully wake up tomorrow to a blinding shine. Only problem is that its supposed to rain, which will be very sad.

Jim Campos said that you can apply the CG quick several times over the next week or so and it will make the shine that much deeper. That might be a problem for me with the rain. And don't you have to wash your car each time before you apply the stuff?

Anyway, hopefully this was helpful to someone.

hey snare, speaking of the devil...heh..... i was just about to buy the 3-step CG just now... i will be using a spray bottle as well...... did Jim Campos tell you how long this is supposed to last? with proper maintenance using CG-Quick once or twice a year?

On the website it says lasts a lifetime.....but i have a hard time believing that

thanks for the review and directions!

and yes you have to wash the car whenever you want to apply CG-Quick

Rambo,
I think Jim said that you just needed to do the 3 step process annually with the Quick every few months in between. Or more often for a deeper shine. He said that the Quick has the same effect as the 3 step but that it just doesn't last as long.

If I have to wash the car every time I apply the Quick, then I won't be doing it much over the next week since you aren't supposed to wash the car for a week while I guess the CG is bonding with the car. Perhaps I can add a coat in the morning.
