Clear Bra

I need some advice. I just purchased a new 2005 a black g35x and was wondering if the paint on the 2005s are any better than the 2004. I've read that the 2004s and prior was prone to chipping.

I've read great things about Zaino and I'm sold. My idea was to Zaino my car with 3 coats and then add a clear bra. Does anyone have any advice on types of clear bra, like brand 3M or other third party protectors? I've heard mixed results from some ppl, but I wanted to hear from my fellow g35 owners if any have had any bad experiences with clear bras, like discoloring, dirt trappings? Last but not least, any recommendations on a reasonably priced and skilled clear bra installer in the Northern VA/DC/MD area?

Thanks!

I don't think the paint on the 05 is any better than on the 04. Plenty of 05 owners have complained about stone chips early. You're on the right track. Get that Zaino on there, then have the clearbra installed (Remember: Installation is KEY! so get yourself a good installer, not just the cheapest).

As far as clearbra brands, I have only had experience with 2 (3M and Llumar). The 3M is not the clearest film but provides good protections. The Llumar film is equally protective but is much clearer than the 3M. The Llumar paint protection film is made by Llumar, one of the most popular and well known manufacturers of window tint and other window/paint coverings.

I went with the Llumar, as that is what my dealer recommended to me. I also compared the films at the dealership and felt better going with the Llumar.

Good Luck!

Clear Bra

Thanks for the info 05GSedan. I was thinking of using the clear bra on the entire hood to eliminate the visible line. Has anyone done this or am I crazy?

^^ You're not crazy, you just have to find a local shop capable of covering the whole hood using 1-piece. It's going to be big $$ though.

Personally, I don't think a whole hood application is worth it. The line is only visible from certain angles and you must be looking for it. The application I did was entire front bumper, 1/3 hood, and mirrors and it was $499 (my dealer contracted this out to a very reputable installer and they did a great job). They key is the install though.

Good Luck

Zaino Polish is dry, but Carnauba wax is not... to have the Clear Bra installed, I should only Polish right? Or is it ok if I P21S Wax too?

I waxed with carnauba wax before having my ClearBra installed and after 6 months, I have had no problems. I don't know if I'd feel comfortable having it on their without some wax. The ClearBra purposely does not block UV rays so that if the paint fades, what is under the clearbra will fade also.

I may be wrong, but I'd wax first!

I had a guy come to my house a couple of weeks ago to install a clear bra. Before he applied the clear bra he cleaned the entire front end of the car with a solvent to remove any wax. I watched. I don't see how it would adhere to a waxed surface. He did say to wax over the clear bra after it had set for several days, which I did with Zaino.

Yeah thats what I thought... I cant see how it would attach... Polish, on the other hand, is dry so just sparying some of watever it is they spray might be enough to attach....

Yes, doing the whole hood is possible......here are some pics of superman's g w/ the entire hood done about a month ago - https://g35driver.com/forums/showthr...ight=clear+bra

As for polishing, it really isn't necessary unless you get a scratch on the film. Just keep a coat of wax on it and use plexus to take off the bugs and road grime.

bit confused

Okay, dumb question, but I'll ask it anyway. If the clear bra installer took the wax off the car before applying the bra, is it worth zaino'ing the car first?

Also, the whole hood being wrapped looked incredibly well done. Nice.

The clear bra installer, if worth his salt, will remove any and every polish, wax, etc. on the paint before installation. Don't bother with the Zaino until the bra is installed. Zaino over the bra and it will look great!

Just to add to the previous statement. Do not Zaino the car before applying the Clearbra. I Zainoed my last car before it got the clearbra and it made installation alot harder for my installer. Zanio seems to make the surface like glass.

I was anxious to Zaino the car, but I forced myself to wait. The dealer had washed and waxed the car when I got it a few days before the install. It still had that slick feel, but the solvent he used removed it.
