bottom out w/ bumper any ideas?

I bottomed out with my front bumper and scratched it up. The scratches go from the center of the bumper to the left lip that juts down from the origional lip. The plastic piece under the bumper is also scratched but most are on the main part. I figured instead of getting it fixed im going to sand it, use touch up paint and compund. If i do this.. I will post pictures if it comes out good (which it should beacause I'm not exactly inexpierenced) because I'm sure ALOT of you guys are in the same boat. Anyone have any other tips before I get myself into something I shouldn't be? The bumper was scratched along the road like the road was sandpaper itself. It's not noticable but once you know it's there.. its REALLY REALLY BAD AND NOTICEABLE

Thanks - Joey Avino

I scratched my left front corner on a curb (oops). Anyways... make sure that you sand it totally smooth, then put on the paint (got mine from Grubbs) and then use the compound to smooth out. Mine came out GREAT. My car is black and you can hardly notice from 3 inches away. Good luck!

guys, dont forget to apply the clearcoat paint!!!!!!!! you can pickup a small touch-up size bottle from your local auto retailer
i've scratch BOTH the front corner and the bottom of the bumper heh, fixed both, its not that easy though, still visible, if i get body damage, i would take it to a professional shop, but since its only a urethane bumper, i could careless...... BATTLE DAMAGE! heh...gives the G character

http://homestarrunner.com/sbemail42.html "BUT THATS NO ALL!!! UH OH!! BATTLE DAMAGE!!"

lol strongbad rocks! Let's talk about him.. who cares about my bumper! On the topic note.. I do have a friend (He does my body work) my body shop guy and Im going to go today and get the compound he uses, you apply it and than just keep rubbing it until it buffs off like wax. He put some on my trunk.. all of the sap, bird crap, and swirls were gone!

havent checked the strongbad site in a few months man, i've been missing out heh....
about that compound though.....
The compound i was talking about earlier is this stuff that came with my chip repair kit.... i've never used it though....your supposed to apply it AFTER the clearcoat.....so its probably the same compound that you have... let me know the results dude...maybe thats the best way to get rid of the battle damage hehe

yeah...see.... the 3M probably does NOT wrap around that low and so it may leave the bottom unprotected (its not visible, anyway)

3M stuff protects against chips and scratches, but does not protect against GRINDING! heh a parking block would eat right thru it!

Re: bottom out w/ bumper any ideas?

I definatly got grinded. As far as painting the front bumper, my guy charges about $215 to paint it. That includes labor, paint, clearcoat, everything. He does a great Job. If you need to know it's A&D Auto Body in Leonia, NJ. He's really good at prices and he hooks me up alot with like paint and the compund I got from him (which I explained in an earlier post). He even got me fast wax to apply it after. When I pick it up this weekend I'll let you know the brand names, etc. The guy's name is Dom, tell him Joe Avino sent you if you live in the area.
