Still have scratches
Still have scratches
I recently had a post where I used claybar to remove bird poop. It did remove the poop left an area of small hairline scratches about the size of 2" square. I used Meguires Scratch X on the area 5 times and I still see the scratches when viewed from the right angle. I also followed up with Zaino 5 but that didn't help. Should I try more layers of Scratch X? How much pressure should I use when applying and taking off the Scratch X. Also how long should I leave it on before I remove it? Is Zaino 5 the best choice for the follow up layer to Scratch X?
I think it's possible you're using the scratchx incorrectly. When applying it apply a reasonable amount (a blob the size of a quarter or so) to the scratched area. Use a terry applicator (not mf, terry has more bite) and rub the scratchx into the area. Rub with a decent amount of force - the heat from the rubbing is what breaks down the abrasives in the scratchx, and what ultimately removes the scratches. Rub for about 45 seconds, or until the scratchx has almost completely disapeared then remove with a MF towel. Do this a couple times and it should remove almost any light scratch or bird poop etching. Finding the right amount of pressure to use is tricky, you don't want to add more scratches, but you need to work the product in so that its abrasives break down.
Do not leave it on the paint, apply, work, remove. It doesn't need to 'sit'. That will just make it a bear to remove.
As for what to seal with after scratchx, that's personal preference. Z5 has some fillers, so it will help mask the marring. Products like NXT do also. Z2 does not, so if there is still some marring use Z5, since Z2 will exagerate the scratches. Z2 can be used on the rest of the car, though.

Scratch-X is a very mild abrasive polish you may need something like the Poorboy's World SSR 2.5 followed by the SSR 1.0. Those are a little heavier cutting and would produce more noticeable results.
