Klez..... the dealer paint protector is usually some form of polymer sealant, NOT PLASTIC FILM. Basically its like a wax and is supposed to last for years. Personally, its not worth it, since you yourself said that time and money are not a factor. Do you know how much zaino you can buy for $900? hahahahaha
what onefastg is talking about is Clear-bra, most dealerships do not even know what it is. So thats probably not what your $900 charge is for. Its most likely for the paint wax/sealant that i just mentioned.

what about the perma plate stuff? is that the same thing you guys are talking about. And if I got it on my car, do i have to wait a while until i can apply zaino or anything else?
Re: is it worth it to get the paint protector at dealr
All those dealer paint protectants are usually polymer-based, maybe with teflon (though that doesn't really add value). Generally, it's a $20 bottle of something that's wipe-on, wipe-off, and needs to be re-applied in 6 months just like regular wax, regardless of their claims.

If anything having one of those sealants applied on a brand new car can do more harm than good, because it's been reported that they can keep the paint from curing/hardening properly.

Correct. Modern cars are cured at the factory.
Some body shops have paint booths with ovens to bake the paint and cure it, but some don't... and they'll recommend you wait a few weeks before waxing repainted parts.

Re: is it worth it to get the paint protector at dealr
Don't bother with it. Several times a month, I go into dealerships to apply "Perma Plate" & "Touch of Glass" onto Audis and Hondas. Here's what I do when I'm in dealerships:
-Prep Wash Vehicle (30 minutes)
-Clay Treatment (1 hr.........rarely is this done since new vehicles are in excellent condition)
-Apply Paint Sealant BY HAND: namely "paint protection", "exterior detailing", "touch of glass", "perma plate" (30 minutes)
This is a very basic exterior detailing package, but the dealer charges a bundle for it. Although, I'm not supposed to revealing this, I don't believe in deception. In a way, the way dealerships make money is pretty deceiving.
These detailing programs are actually only worth about $120 at professional detailing shops. For $900, you could get your vehicle detailed 3 times with the much more:
(Applied with Dual Orbiter & High Speed Buffer)
-Hand Wash
-Medium Duty Clay Treatment
-2 Layers of Clearcoat Compound
-Mild Paint Polish
-Polymer Paint Sealant
-Premium Wax
-Tire Dressing
-Wheel Cleaning
Yes, dealerships need to make money........but there is a pt before it becomes a rip off.

too bad the paint SUX
oops ... did I say a bad?
I got orange peel on my trunk lid and the front fascia lower lip portion is minorly sandblasted looking, of course I am aware that is not the paints fault, but one dude said on here, if you stare at it hard enough it'll scratch.
TRUE, damn black G
Bloody shame.
