well, taking that bracket bar off didn't work. the sound was initially gone, but once i drove around for 10 miles or so, it was back with a vengeance. now i'm back to square one..

Something is expanding when it's hot. You need to get it on a lift with the engine running.

i did exactly that when i was at Cobb initially. they were unable to conclusively pinpoint the problem, but they said they THOUGHT it was the flex joints in the Y.

i'm so frustrated right now with this car. i can't even get a simple bolt-on to work properly for crying out loud (among other problems). wtf?

yep - they insisted that the noise was normal rasp. i have no video camera to take a clip to prove otherwise.

well, the noise is (still) obviously there, and i'm (still) annoyed with it. i guess i have two options now...

should i just call the whole thing a loss and try to buy another brand of cats (crawford? kinetix??)

or...

should i put the stock ones back on and try to find a good catback? i'm not sure how well a catback would jive with OEM cats (someone can chime in on this), but i am so freakin tired of this crap. if anyone has any thoughts or would like to help in any way, i would GREATLY appreciate it (as many of you know).

(insert one more line in parenthesis just for overkill).

thanks guys.

Man I've seriously tried.. You know I have.. I've been there dang near every step of the way.. I'd say go w/ some different Cats at this point and see if you get lucky. I think you've worked those berks to death.. They've been rejected by your ride, no use in forcing them to comply. I don't think going stock cats w/ an exhaust is really going to help the situation or your power. The cats are the most restrictive part of your exhaust. You're not going to get enough air to the exhaust to really realize any gains. IMO it'd be more money wasted.. I'd personally concentrate on the cats first.

haha yeah i truly appreciate ya Tony...what a bumpy ride it has been for such a small part. you know better than anyone how annoying the sound really is....

i agree with the sentiment about the OEM cats+catback exhaust. i know the cats are really restrictive, but i just wanted confirmation that it would be better to replace the cats first (or in conjunction with a new exhaust).

if anyone has any aftermarket cats (kinetix, crawford), let me know. i'm not sure that i could sell my Berks in good conscience since they have caused me so much trouble. i can't be 100% sure that they are the problem unless i try them on another car to see if the sound is reproduced, but as it stands i have to assume that it's the berks.

anyone, feel free to PM me if you have some cats you want to part out or get rid of.

One last thing you can try is to get a Stillen engine damper.

Relative easy install and it prevents movement of your engine upon acceleration/decel. It may prevent whatever is rubbing when you accelerate.

A real long shot.

It doesn't even sound like something's rubbing, and it's in the exhaust system under the car, not by the engine area from what I remember.. it's closer to whhere the Y pipe splits as far as placement of the rattle.. (from listening on the side of the driver side door)

The pattern is accelerates, then decel, then rattle.. It's an enigma..

1. Rasp
2. Exhaust gasket
3. OEM Y-pipe flex joint
4. OEM Y-pipe heat shield
