Mobil 1 is really not that great of an oil based on many tests that have been done. I WAS using Motul 300V when I was actually driving the car hard. But have since switched to Castrol Syntec Edge.

I've looked at a lot of independent tests and Syntec edge has always been in the top 3. Mobil 1 was in the top 10 but not nearly as good as Castrol.

Is the consensus that Castrol is the way to go for the vehicle. I have been crazy paranoid and have been checking the oil everyday for changes in oil levels. I drive it to operating temperature and then let it cool down for 10-15 minutes and check. I have 2 of the gallon jugs of 5w30 that i picked up and i guess i will just use that in the Camry for the wifey in the future. I will run the mobil 1 for 3,000 miles and then change it over to castrol and keep checking my oil once a week if not more. I am really OCD about the oil on this REVUP motor due to all the stories of OC. I heard about Mobil 1 burning up easily but it was an oil I have used in all my other vehicles. The G35 is the first vehicle i have owned with a bad rep for Oil Consumption and do not want to use Mobil 1 if all it will do is disappear on me

Actually I would am planning on going Thursday or Friday to clean the car and get it ready for the weekend. Not sure what time and where but it will be an intimate session with the G-sedan and me on our first car wash.

I'm trying Mobil 1 10w30 now but it's still disappearing fast. Next time it's just straight Mobil regular to see if that helps.

In other news... I just looked under the rear and my rear diff busing is busted and spewed bushing juice all over the place. I have the spl solid rear diff bushings on hand but haven't got it changed out yet. I'm pretty sure this happened at the last autox in April. That was my first event. Just saying... the stock one doesn't seem to hold up too well.
Mine are bad to.. Going w/ Whitelines here in the near future..

I greatly beg to differ on the Mobil 1 stance... that stuff has been proven over and over again. I'd have a hard time going with Castrol as well. That is a Ford designed oil and was originally developed for Ford motors.

Just to state, so that this ever going debate doesn't turn into a pissing match, every car is different and each car handles the oil different. There's also a bit of personal preference included as well. I'm a Mobil 1 kinda guy. Had a lot of good luck with it and my Maxima, G, and Titan all love it.

royal purple will kill our engines... look at blackstone tests.

we have already been through the oil discussion, no need to bring it up again. I know I started it, sorry.

really?! I can't say anything from experience, but I've always thought very highly of royal purple. I'm very curious about that comment.
