Does this sound legit?

So I'm in process of selling my fiance's Miata. This guy contacted me about 4 weeks ago, but never had a chance to come check out the car, as he lives south of Waco. He calls me today and asked if I still had the car for sale. He's interested in checking it out this weekend.

I tell him I want cash, he makes a few calls and said his bank will issue a cashiers check. He gives me the # to his bank, Mills County State Bank, and says his banker needs the VIN# and my info on who to make the cashiers check out to. He gave me the guys #, which is the main bank # and name. The name appears to be the president of the Hamilton Banking center, Donald P. Gromatzky.

Think this sounds legit?

Hes probably doing a loan for it, only reason they need a vin and any other vehicle info such as mileage. Just look up on google and see if the bank is physically there.

You can still be scammed by a cashiers check, I would wait for it to clear. Waiting for it to clear does not mean waiting for funds to be released. I would check with your bank on what their policies are on clearing and counterfeit cashiers checks. Had a friend get scammed on a pool table with a cashiers check, he waited for the money to post, but the check did not clear yet so when he paid for shipping etc he got double jacked.

Well, the name & number he gave me for his banker is the president of the bank. Looks to be a small town of 3000 people.

I personally would not do it. Sounds a bit too risky to me.

Maybe tell him that you will take a cash deposit and wait for the rest of the funds to clear. No matter what though he does not get the car or title till you have all the cash in hand.
