Drivers Road in DFW?

Anyone know of any great or even good roads around the Metroplex, where you can get a little speed and get in some corners? I get jealous seeing Top Gear and all those amazing roads all over the world.

Try moving to Vermont. I set out on this quest a few years ago when I moved down here. There are some roads out near Palo Pinto but just not enough of them to make it worth the drive.

The closest drivers road to Dallas is the Talimena Hwy between Talihena, OK and Mena, AK. But you have to go at night, when it's cold, or when it's raining because motorcyclists will ruin your drive otherwise.

This will be the last post.

If you really want a DRIVE without the damn motocycles and roads all to yourself head to the Ozarks in AK. Just drive around at random once there and you'll grin fron ear to ear.

However, beware the dueling banjos.

Choba Street over in Fort Worth is a really nice road. The portion inbetween the red lines that I marked are the best parts. There are all kind of elevation changes, its very technical. I have not been over there in a few years so I don't know if its as good as it used to be.

if you want a road near austin, look up lime creek rd...it borders the lake...reducing radius and off-camber turns galore. speed limit is like 15, but we regularly did 50-60...this road looks like a winding river on a map.

Borders which lake? Thanks, I figured there would be some good roads down around Austin, the Hill Country has tons of good roads but there usually occupied by motorcycles.

I am assuming you mean Arkansas... which is AR (AK is Alaska, which has some good roads, but is tough to get to). The Pigtrail and old 71 between Ft. Smith and Fayetteville are the 2 best, but there are some other good ones in the Ozarks.

Lime Creek is the best in Austin (on the northeast side of Lake Travis by Cedar Park), but it gets clogged up sometimes. As mentioned, a lot of the Hill Country roads west of Austin are good. Go to Salt Lick BBQ, or Fredricksburg for some BBQ, and you will hit some good roads. Watch out for cops on the way to Salt Lick....

wow, the guy asks for good roads in the area and people respond with on/off ramps and roads hundreds of miles away. You people really should get out and drive around N. Texas more often.

I admit, there's nothing nearby close to as good as the mentioned Talimena or Pig Trail. Lime Creek is great, but not worth killing a bicyclist over. It's just way too crowded. FYI, the Pig Trail and nearby roads in the Boston Mountains are almost as good as Tail of the Dragon. Actually, the roads themselves in AR are better. TotD isn't worth the extra drive to get there.

However, there are TONS of fun roads within an hour of the metroplex.
First, you have to get out of the city, but not much...

FM 455 - Take it from I-35 in Sanger all the way to Hwy 75 in Anna. Absolutely a blast. It has everything from long straights, high-speed sweepers, and some fun tight sections.

FM 902 - From near Gainesville to Hwy 75 in Anna

New Hope Rd - 1827 - 470 - 1377 - 545 - This combo of roads is a lot of fun. Take Hwy 380 east of McKinney a few miles and then north on New Hope road. You essentially can make a big loop and end up on 121 headed back into McKinney. There are TONS of great roads like these NE of the metroplex, all the way up to the Red River.

I am from Fayetteville, and I go up there probably 8 times a year. I try to hit up at least one of the roads mentioned each time I take my car (which is not all that often). I agree though, probably not worth the drive to Arkansas unless you have a good reason to go....
