So wait... because you'll "keep a car forever", that means you won't ever own a newer car? Damn. Fooled me. I'll keep mine forever, but own several new cars. When a car is only worth 10k and still runs fine, why get rid of it? Just keep it for a back up/toy/tinker with/etc and then buy your new car... unless 10k is really important to you in your new purchase.
I had a similar thought when I bought my G. I had maxima and decided there was no point in getting rid of it because it wasn't worth a damn thing. Plus it helped keep the insurance cheaper with multiple cars. And being 25 and various negative marks on my record, that was a good thing.
