Wherever a stock R/T hits 13.8 i will guarantee i will do low 13s on that same day/place.

BTW those cars listed maybe low 14 second cars where u live... but my buddy had a V8 Magnum of some kind w/ exhaust and intake. He ran a 15.1 BEST here at firebird.. That same night I was running 14.8's.

His car weighed over 4000 pounds with ease

It doesn't matter what they put down where. Meaning that even if they run a 14.5 out in the altitude in Cali, a stock g is going to be pretty close to that too.

The tracks out here are pretty average - meaning most people out here can run the times in the mags.

I've seen stock 05+ mustang gt's run low 14's, and I've seen them run high 13's. I've also seen a stock magnum r/t run like a 14.2 on the same night I ran a 14.0(almost 3 years ago). I haven't seen any stock chargers run, but if a magnum can run a 14.2, a charger can definitely run a 14 flat.

Same track as me, same night as me, when I had nothing but cats. Oh - on that same night where I saw the magnum running low 14's, I saw an SRT8 magnum running 13's flat at 109mph, bone stock. Watching that thing launch was like watching some cataclysmic event; lots of noise, and I swear I could feel the ground shaking.

Not entirely related to this discussion - on that same night I saw a snowmobile run mid 10's@125mph.

I can assure you that a stock RT is not going to dip below 14 on the tracks out here... mid 14s are more like it. So posting track times doesnt mean much - since as you are aware every track is going to yield different times no matter what the power is. So to say a Charger RT runs a 13.8 makes it seem real fast... put it on Autoclub Dragway and it wont get anywhere near that.
I haven't driven an R/T, but I have rented a couple 300Cs for work. I think the 300C handles pretty dang good for a 4,100lb car and the acceleration, especially from 0-50mph is pretty good. From 40mph on up, I know my G can hang with them and I've seen the truth at my strip too. They hole-shot me and then it's pretty even.

I understand that not every track is going to result in the same times, but we don't need to be made constantly aware by the CA people that their tracks might be slower than most of the tracks we run at. On a typical track, under good conditions (sea level DA), and a good driver on street tires, a G35 is a solid 14.0-14.3 second car. A 300C or Charger R/T is a solid 13.9-14.1-second car. They're faster cars than the 1st gen G35s. Faster than NA fairly modded G35s? Doubtful. However with headers, intake, ECU, and TC, it's lights out for most any NA modded G35. A modded Hemi like this is a solid low 13 second/high 12-second ride. With an intake and headers, these cars are in the mid 13s pretty easily. 1st gen G35s aren't so lucky.

I just raced my buddys 06 purple charger rt, he has headers, $1500 dollar corsca exhaust, a cold air intake and its chipped. My car is a 05 sedan, 6spd, 1/2 motordyne spacer, mrev 2, and technosquare tune with a stock exhaust. We raced twice, the first time I beat him by about two cars to 100mph, and the second time I bogged my launch and I still beat him by 1 and 1/2 cars.

An 05 S2000 gave me a better race then the charger RT

the Charger RT is not an uncommonly fast car.

DaveB - the reason I mentioned CA tracks is because you said RTs are running 13.8... fact is they don’t run that here. thats all.

So far I've seen 2 or 3 ppl say they've beaten an RT - I've driven one and know its not much of a race... "Stock for Stock", it might be close... I'm not sure what more needs to be said. This could literally go on for days...

Well, I know I've gotten my answer. The sad thing about all this is, if he does get it, he'll be paying me to make it faster so he can beat me. Talk about keeping friend close but enemies closer.

With my last car, my friend 350Z was my bench mark for things. With whatever he gets next, my G will be his bench mark.

The R/T needs a driver mod

The charger can be a little faster, probably high 13's, low 14's with a average driver. G35's are low 14's with a good driver, mid 14's with an average one. Probably a driver's race overall, though the R/T will dominate if modded, obviously. It has a lot more potential with such a large engine.

Our powerband makes our cars seem faster than they are. the thrashy power spike makes them seem nasty. But, the power is lacking at lower rpms. On cars with more torque, the powerband is nearly flat, so you won't notice the power climbing as much.

When I first got my G, I swore it was as fast as my Grand Prix. It just threw me back when it reached the powerband. However, when lined up against my old car, it would be a few cars back before it ever reached that powerband. My mid/low 14's G felt as fast as my mid 12's grand prix. After owning both for a while and getting used to the G's powerband, I realized it couldn't compete.

So, in conclusion, more goes into our perception of speed, than speed itself. While you'll probably out launch an R/T on the street where he can't get traction for his torque, they're by no means slow. It's a driver's race.

An R/T should be easier to launch than a G35 due to its powerband & suspension setup. It's not going to have any issues with traction unless the person driving it lacks basic driving skills.

The G35 has always been trickier to launch than your typical american muscle car. Finding the perfect balance between traction & bogging down is alot tougher on the G35.

With my brothers 2008 Mustang GT 5MT, I can consistently get a great launch without much effort. Whereas with the G35 6MT, it definately requires more skills to get the same launch as I would with my brothers GT. (Wheel hop is non existant in the Mustang GT, and hooks right off the line).

As far as my experiences with the R/T at the track... I have never had any issues with them. With a few basic bolt-ons, I have no problem pulling away. Without the modifications, im pretty sure I can probably still edge one out by a small margin with great driving. But by all means, its still considered a drivers race.

In terms of acceleration & the drag strip, the R/T has potential on its side: a few bolts ons and a tune, and its a whole different story.

I have to say I have no experience with the Charger R/T, but we own an SRT8 with intake and exhaust and an 06 6mt G35 and there is no comparison. I've driven both and the Charger is a monster compared to my little G. We have never raced them but I can say I don't think we ever will. Maybe the GTO vs. the Charger someday, but I still think the Charger will win. I love my G but also love to drive the Charger too.

^^ The SRT8 is a completely different car than the R/T without a doubt.

And unlike the R/T, the SRT8 is well suited for a circuit track as much as it is for a drag strip.
